Know what you are trying to say there, but your math is a little off.

If we signed 20 players and put them all on 100k per week, not only would our wages still be lower than Arsenal, it would also be lower than our current wage bill is atm, 104m your suggesting, as of the 16/17 season we where paying 106m in wages :)

Obviously meant 20 players in addition to current wages.

We need to find a niche.

Never going to compete with City/United/Chelsea on money.

So why not be the team that plays great football and gives young players a chance?

Great post mate and thats it. People unfortunately view things like having a philosophy as synonymous with Martinez. Having a clear outlook of how we play, which runs through the entire club to the youth team to first team. This should be overseen by a DOF and having a clear outlook from first team coach.

For me, we need a coach who will give Baningime, Davies, Vlasic, Lookman, DCL & Holgate all central to the first team, as well as arguably Connolly/Dowell and Joe Williams. I already see lads like Gordon, Feeney, Hornby coming through as well. We seem to excel is getting lads to age 20/21 and then struggle to turn them into superstars. Someone who can help that will be very welcomed. It might mean some lean years but building towards something better and more continuation of what we are good at.

Then start closing deals for players like Son, Isak, Bailey, Gray & Haller that we have identified but couldn't finish.

It sound easy, but we can bring through a top team if we did that.

Will never happen though unfortunately. Teams like Dortmund can do this because generally speaking they're safe in the division. For us it's just a massive risk, the club can't afford to try it out and end up relegated. This year has been one of the worst PL I've ever seen but you can still see how easy it would be to relegate us if our team isn't ready.

You know that he’ll either be boss at some other prem club and we won’t get him, or we’ll get him and he’ll be Martinez 14/15 flavour. Everton that.

Any new manager really has to find a way to combine a reasonable short-term improvement with something to give us longer-term hope. I think most of us would accept steady progress over a couple of seasons incorporating a team trying to play decent football, trying to play to win, within a squad that becomes ever more balanced in terms of positional cover and age profile. A squad that includes the very best of our youth and young, that play if they do well, and that is composed of sensible signings, some of whom will be prospects from abroad, with value for money foremost.

I think we are in a bloody awful mess such that we could expect a lot of bumps in this scenario and really the clean-up required might well only take real shape into the final year of a three-year contract. Any manager looking at us as a potential prospect has to realise and appreciate that and at least be willing to want to prove enough initially to make it a longer-term stay.

With Koeman there seemed to be an opinion on his part that he could do enough to qualify us for UCL or have us near the fringes by year three and that would be enough to justify him leaving for something better. That's always the impression I was left with.

Allardyce now seems to realise the very distinct possibility of his stay being over by May and we are just seeing virtually the entire management and squad throw their hands up as a result.

Above all else - I'm sick and tired of the last two managers Koeman and Allardyce disowning their responsibility. I don't want unremitting fake positivity either as with Martinez but I do want someone that will own and take responsibility for the team and not constantly defer blame elsewhere.

My concern is that he's doing what he's doing at Shaktar with Lucescu's team. He didn't buy any of these guys. In fact, he's literally not bought anyone of note.

That being said, if we are going with a true D of F model, he can just focus on getting the best out of the talent he's given. Since that's pretty much what he's doing at Shaktar, it might work out rather well.
True DOF model means we have a true DOF
Which is where you plan falls down sadly

Right I've decided it is happening.

We are getting him, Bernard and Ferreyra all out of contract this summer.

Gives us two players familiar with his system, both of good ages and Champions League proven.

A front 4 of:

Ferreyra
Bernard Sigurdsson Walcott

looks a lot more balanced and threatening that we've had for a while.

With Tosun/Vlasic/Lookman/Dowell/Oneykuru/DCL/Niasse/Klaassen on the books to come in, or sell to raise the money for new attacking fullbacks and passing deep playmakers.

I remember reading that Shaktar didnt want to let him go mid season, he is out of contract come the summer and we only wanted to give Allardyve a short term deal. We were prepared to spend upwards of £10m for Silva so am sure the severance package for Allardyce would be alot less than that.

I cant help but feel we may have sorted a deal for him you know. We moved on from Silva and knew Fonseca would be available for free in the Summer- giving Sam an 18 month deal meant we knew we'd have tp pay him off but knew it would be less than what we would have had to pay for Silva.

This of course could all be bull because Everton.

Sounds plausible. After we could not get Silva we where only looking for short term deals. Pulis was in the frame but we went back to Sam.

It's not just a matter of good coaching and giving the young lads the opportunity, though. A decent manager would see to it that there are a couple of experienced leaders in the team who will guide those players through. Have a couple of older heads with the right character - like Reid and Gray in the 80s - and the youngsters will flourish.

I don't think any of the above will happen and we'll still be starting Bolasie because he cost 30 million quid.
