Who knows man.

Firstly who knows that we'll hire him? He's a big enough name with enough success to excite the fans while not being too big (Simeone, Enrique etc) that it's totally implausible he'd want to come here.

Secondly who knows how successful he'll be? He's obviously a talented coach but this league is much less forgiving in terms of competitiveness and the amount of time given to succeed. We've went through 3 managers in one season - who knows how much time he'll be given if he doesn't adapt straight away?

We need a project manager. Someone who can see the bigger picture and work towards it over 3+ seasons. Koeman was not that manager and Allardyce is certainly not that manager. We need a Pochettino who can build a real team from the ashes of this disaster.
We need a manager that can really create a team with some real chemistry.

I think Fonesca looks like the type to want a project instead of an easy ride on the PL managerial carousel. I think he looks like the type to want a legacy and not a cash grab but who knows really?

Thirdly (or fourthly?) we as fans need to accept that if we get Fonesca in, the odds on a traditionally successful first (or even second) season will not be favourable. Right now we are not good. We will not become good overnight by hiring an exciting manager. We will probably not be good until he's at least had 2 transfer windows and plenty of time to coach the pathetic out of our current squad.

I'd be all for hiring Fonesca really but I'll not be jumping on the jazzing-in-pants bandwagon if we sign him and I'll not be joining in the Fonesca-out bandwagon after a few bad months at the start.

With the exception of Porto he's not really been at a large team before (Porto's expectations however are of course success) his win rate at Shaktar is impressive but then the league over there isn't fantastic. However I find it hard to believe he can do a worse job than the current and previous custodians.

I think he is probably the best we can do considering the circumstances, and in my view a much better candidate than Silva.

If Moshiri manages to get him here I think he'll deserve credit.

Assuming whoever is brought in is generally favourably received, they'll need time and patience. There will be a huge amount of work to be done.

I'm sure the majority of the fanbase would accept a couple of seasons of 'transition' if the football they were watching was entertaining and they can see the plan unfolding.

As the great man @chicoazul would have said, 'no chance'.

..when it comes to selecting a manager, i’m happy to declare that I haven’t got a clue. I do think it’s lots to do with right person, right time, right place. What I would say is that a candidates record in the transfer market is possibly more worthy of scrutiny than his results on the pitch.

Anyone questioning why this bloke would sign for Everton needs to think Money money money.

His salary at Everton would dwarf the salary he’s currently on.

This is it in a nutshell, lately we always seem to be fire fighting and have no long term plan/vision whatever you want to call it (not including the new stadium for now). On the pitch we have no identity, players being bought to plug holes without having an overall strategy, we need focussed and planned player recruitment to move the team forward with progressive football.
A style of play dictates the players you recruit or at least it should.

Which was always the problem wiht Koeman. You give a manager who barely stays at a club 2 years a 3 year deal, it doesn't scream "long term".

If he had made a decent shape and progress was made then he could of extended so that alone didnt bother me. A long term plan with a DOF should not be derailed by a new manager. I know they are struggling now but Swansea for a while had a nice style of football and changed managers regularly and we have far more resources than them, they made the model work why cant we ?

I think that too.

To get to where we want to be we have to transition to the passing, pressing, quick attacks model every winning team uses.

That won't be easy with our current squad so we'll have some players out of their comfort zone (although others may thrive) for a season or two.

Someone like Fonseca might be able to identify players from cheaper leagues who could do a job and fill some of the obvious gaps we have.

We convinced a retired manager with no desire to return to ocme back and keep the team playing crap and losing games so anything is possible.
