Howard had a big farewell.

The writing was on the wall for Howard. He had time left on his deal but his form was terrible (lost his starting spot) and he was a bit pouty. So he left voluntarily, which let everyone do a make-nice farewell as a way of papering over the fact that it was ending poorly.

Ironically, by having better form than Howard at the end (not hard) and acting like a consummate professional, Jags cost himself a shot at a big goodbye since it was conceivable that he might be back.

oh yeah sorry forgot about that

Thanks for your service and efforts , Jags ..... Well past his prime , best for him + club to part ways !

He was playing so well when he got that injury against city before the cup final. I think he was a major loss to us on cup final day. Wish him all the best.

I think what ruined a perfectly decent defender who could clear his lines was Moyes handing the armband to him as his final act of sabotage on Everton.

He couldn't do that job. And because he couldn't, his game went. Yes, injuries hurt him form wise. But it was the burden of captaincy that gave him too much to handle.

In the pantheon of Everton CBs, he's nowhere near the greats of my lifetime like Ratcliffe, Lyons, Mountfield, Watson. More in the Stubbs, Weir, Higgins category.

Solid and dependable for half his time here. Less so in the latter period.
