Sorry to see him go but it had to happen sooner or later. Another sign of the end of an era in some ways. Hope he goes on to something positive and we see him back around the place once he retires.

I'm not a club basher but there are some signs of poor organisation at the moment -- friendlies, contract situations -- and Jags alludes to this in his comments. Brands seems so on top of things that you'd expect there to be a good reason behind it. But whatever it is, it doesn't indicate smoothness.

I like to think it was ruthless and that Brands laughed him out of his office calling him grandad and throwing a bus pass at him.

Great time to go for the man. Excellent part of the team, arrived my first year of supporting Everton. Hopefully he will get offered a spot at an MLS team for another year or 2 if he still wants to play; dreaming of him and Baines joining Wayne at DC.

Didnt think id be this gutted about him leaving you know.

Pre-Injury he was easily one of, if not the best centre halves in the League & his partnership with Lescott is the best ive seen at Everton.

Him and Lescott were fantastic together.

Easily forgot what a good job Moyes did on a shoestring budget.

All the best Jags. We salute you.
Our record England cap holder (as an Everton player) and the only player to captain England whilst playing for us. Some achievement. Would love to see him get his coaching badges and come back to us in the future and win a trophy.
Thanks for the memories - and unlike many players to don the Royal blue and white, you gave us quite a few.

Howard had a big farewell.

The writing was on the wall for Howard. He had time left on his deal but his form was terrible (lost his starting spot) and he was a bit pouty. So he left voluntarily, which let everyone do a make-nice farewell as a way of papering over the fact that it was ending poorly.

Ironically, by having better form than Howard at the end (not hard) and acting like a consummate professional, Jags cost himself a shot at a big goodbye since it was conceivable that he might be back.

Howard should have left/retired in 2009
