Saint Domingo
Player Valuation: £90m
Still a very good premier league defender, just should never be partnered with Distin.

Bringing the ball out comes second to being a great defender and jags is a quality defender and always has been. Your dismissive attitude towards him sums up your complete lack of football understanding imo.Old school sums him up. He's just a defender who can clear his lines (when he's not got his head up his arse as he has for most of this season).
He's capable of a lead by example performance every now and again these days. It's really not good enough. We need a leader who can do what he does at his best and be comfortable bringing the ball out.
Stick a fork in this feller, he's done.

You rate Jagielka?Well, youve just removed any doubt anybody had with regards sanity.
You, my Friend, are done.

You rate Jagielka?
Of course, yesterday was a Dr Jekyll day - who couldn't like that?; but most times we get Mr Hyde turning up.
He's about 18 months past his sell on date, imo.
Jagielka and Distin dug each other out on occasion because they have/had a lot of pace. But they've always been limited. I was amazed Martinez didn't get at least one last summer. I dont agree that we'd have to cough up loads to get an upgrade on them either. Van Dijk would have cost about £10M in this window. The players are out there and we need to be going forward and evolving, not sticking with CBs because they've been with us years and can still do a job once every ten games.Haha, as ever - an entertaining response, but again one I disagree with on this subject.
He deserves criticism, absolutely - earlier this season he was making some ridiculous errors, but you could visibly see his frustration with Distin in every game. I've been a big fan of the big frenchman but time after time he was wrong positionally. What was happening for me in these situations was that Jagielka would have to compensate and try and save the day leaving him horribly exposed. This happened with such regularity that his confidence nose dived and he too then started making ridiculous decisions.
You can see he trusts Stones because the young lad has no ego. Defensively he will do what he's told and allow Jagielka to do what he does best - defend. Yes it would be lovely to have 2 ball playing defenders who can defend to the level that our captain can, but they are few and far between and further cost an absolute bucket full of cash to bring in.
I defend you with your defence of Martinez because you see the bigger picture with him, you see the mitigating factors and why things arent going rosey.
For me though you do yourself a disservice because you dont mirror that with your other opinions - like this one on jagielka. There were reasons for his downturn in form - both tactically from our team and personnel (Distin) which had an adverse effect on Jagielkas form and performances. Stones is back, Jagielka has a perfect foil and it's no co-incidence that we've looked more solid that we have all season
Has more bad days than good now but hes got his uses for another season or two. Would still look at bringing in someone new to partner Stones
