Seriously though. Between the other three defenders there were something like 15 premier league appearances. Credit to the Captain for an incredible performance on his own, as well as keeping the young lads organized.

Roberto Martinez hailed Phil Jagielka as the best “English centre-half of the past 12 months” and insisted that his skipper was the reason John Stones and Ramiro Funes Mori have flourished alongside him. Jagielka eased his new Argentinian partner through the intensity of a Merseyside derby and Mori impressed.

But Martinez said: “I think it's about time that Phil Jagielka gets the credit that he deserves. In my eyes he has been the most consistent and best English centre half we have had in the last 12 months. “It is no coincidence anyone who plays alongside him performs. Anyone who plays in that back four is given the opportunity to express themselves and allowed to be effective and that's down to Phil Jagielka.

Absolutely spot on...................he is Mr Everton and has been for a while

Can't believe he's never been subject to a big bid. He has the ability to partner and succeed with any CB he plays with. Has been capped for England playing alongside: Lescott, Distin, Stones--three very different defenders. He has been a part of an all english defense that kept 16 consecutive clean sheets. A defense that allowed the 3rd fewest goals in the prem. Has played well in the Europa League, the Euros and the World Cup. Needless to say, I'm stoked he's never been a hot commodity, but it doesn't makes sense, because he is BOSS.

I feel for him in the sense that Gary Cahill has got a few medals at Chelsea, and I rate Jagielka as a better player.

Still, a lot to be said for the fact he's captained this brilliant club and remained loyal throughout his time. Definitely falls into the category of deserving a trophy before he retires.
