Transfer Rumour Philippe Coutinho

I never got the hype about him when he was at RS, he scored some worldies, but other than that he seemed to be a player that would float in and out of games. Couldn’t believe the amount Barca paid for him, which has hugely backfired.

Personally think he’s not the type of player we need; pace and able to play a high number of games.

He can create though, so if Moshiri’s wanting to throw more money at the club and we get the other positions we really need as well as him then that’s fine.

Think it’s nonsense anyway

Would be a great signing

but as always half the forum is negative and happy to watch Davies and Delph

I’ve grown up watching Ian Marshall, Brett Angel and Carl Tiler

It's not so much that I don't think he'd be a good signing as that I think it isn't a good use of scarce resources when we have a thin squad and a lot of pressing needs.

If we could buy Coutinho at AM, add a young attacking RB of starter quality to share minutes with Coleman, get another ball-winning mid with some pace in so that our slower but skilled AMs still have some defensive cover in the event of injury, and add somebody up top to push DCL for minutes and/or start when DCL falls out of form, I'd be delighted.

I don't see how we afford all that (and, say, Koulibaly if we're so inclined), and it seems to me that Coutinho is the closest thing to a luxury on the shopping list, as well as likely the most expensive.

If you think that there's a better plan than grinding out boring 1-0s that can be executed with the funds available, perhaps Coutinho becomes a more essential signing. I just see us as currently in a position where we have to get to the point that we can sustain winning pragmatically, then go buy the pieces to do it with panache.

Incidentally, if executed well the plan to win stylishly probably gets rolling right around when BMD finishes.

Genuinely flabbergasted at comments like this. Its all about adding as much to the squad so we havent got to rely on lets face it mid table players. We play 19 games at home and we're currently relying on your alex iwobis as part of the squad. We've struggled at home because of this. Its rodriguez and thats it.
Squad quality options is vital.
I’m flabbergasted by peeps who can’t see what issues we have in the team. Just adding Coutinho, because he’s better than Iwobi, is a ridiculous argument.

We lack severe pace and athleticism, something he does not bring

Delph. Please tell me you're joking.

Always looked a bit inconsistent during his Liverpool career. Not seen much of him at barca or Bayern. Suppose if we shifted Bernard for 10-15m and brought in Coutinho it's an instant upgrade.
