Would be a great signing
but as always half the forum is negative and happy to watch Davies and Delph
I’ve grown up watching Ian Marshall, Brett Angel and Carl Tiler
Some people are never pleased
It's not so much that I don't think he'd be a good signing as that I think it isn't a good use of scarce resources when we have a thin squad and a lot of pressing needs.
If we could buy Coutinho at AM, add a young attacking RB of starter quality to share minutes with Coleman, get another ball-winning mid with some pace in so that our slower but skilled AMs still have some defensive cover in the event of injury, and add somebody up top to push DCL for minutes and/or start when DCL falls out of form, I'd be delighted.
I don't see how we afford all that (and, say, Koulibaly if we're so inclined), and it seems to me that Coutinho is the closest thing to a luxury on the shopping list, as well as likely the most expensive.
If you think that there's a better plan than grinding out boring 1-0s that can be executed with the funds available, perhaps Coutinho becomes a more essential signing. I just see us as currently in a position where we have to get to the point that we can sustain winning pragmatically, then go buy the pieces to do it with panache.
Incidentally, if executed well the plan to win stylishly probably gets rolling right around when BMD finishes.
