Like him as a player, but is he what we really need?

We need a player in midfield who can score goals (which he does), but also commands a game, which isn't what type of player he is.

I've no issue if we did sign him, but just feel our money could be spent elsewhere.

Yeah, my view is that James and Siggy have linked up fairly well at times in recent games. So there is the clear value in having two attack minded midfielders.

Against spurs it worked because Spurs sat back and were reactive. Arsenal pressed way more aggressively. Personally I'd like a more mobile front foot attacking mid to play with either James or Siggy. The sort who can create space with their on and off ball running.

They can both pick a pass, they just get closed down fast and aren't really the type to progress the ball by dribbling aggressively.

Quite who we get is a different matter. They're rare commodities and everyone wants players like that.

Coutinho plus cash in a swap for Delph would still be a bad deal for us - we'd increase the wage bill! He is not going to be like a Sheedy who was on the verge of the RS team and then great for us. He was great for them and would always be a pale shadow of that for us. buying Coutinho is not like buying James, more like Gascoigne.

It's a no from me clive but I reserve the right to completely change my mind when he trots out on his debut and gives the ball away 14 times before slotting one in the top bin. I'd rather an out and out winger who can whip the ball in rather than another playmaker.

Suppose one way of looking at it is Bernard or Coutinho. I know who most would pick. But 40m for a 29 year old who's not really been in form, I dunno. Be far happier if that was around 25-30m.
