One of the worst acronyms ever is WWW. An acronym should never, ever have 3 times as many syllables as the phrase it is 'shortening'. Idiotic.

Guys in my work are always saying double you double double you dot....

Also one that really does my head in the job I do, actually two.

To be honest I think it's a thousand times better than you sitting there for minutes at a time trying to come up with some original way of communicating your amusement. Ref. "Crying here", "Superb", "*tears" - when what you actually mean is ROFL.
