Pienaar to return?

I don't get the Saha hate one iota.

Yes he's not scoring but he's not exactly missing much either. Our 'service' is about as reliable as the Royal Mail over Christmas.

Yes he's not AJ or Marcus Bent, chasing down lost causes, bounding around like a Red Setter with a hard-on. But he's also 47 or something and made of glass. He's said he's learnt to conserve his energy and his body so as to keep fit -- and he has indeed kept fit.

Last season he had the same problem -- he just wasn't scoring -- but that was when he was ALSO alongside Cahill. When he got a partner briefly in Beckford and a sustained run with the creative Osman behind him he did score.

Saha is getting way, way too much stick.

My issue with him is that when he has gotten into areas where he should score, he's screwed it up. That combined with losing the ball every time he tries to take on a man, leads me to wanting him to be dropped. I wouldn't say I hate him, but I'd be happy to swap him for Pienaar personally, especially with Jelavic on his way to us seemingly. I think Pienaar would definitely improve us more than keeping Saha if only to reignite his partnership with Baines, who has been poor this season by his standards.

Cahill has done that way more.

Drenthe has lost the ball way more as well when trying to take on a man. And I actually don't remember that happening too much to be honest. Saha doesn't really try to take on players.

I would swap him for Pienaar in a second of course, but I'm just not a fan of the outright hatred that's being directed his way.

I'm sorry mate, but Saha clearly deserves the stick he gets. His performances in general, without even taking into account the complete lack of scoring, have been completely abysmal. He has been an atrocious, his passing, all round link up play, is woeful.

He has been playing the lone striker role, but yet decides to play as a midfielder for over half the game, you can say he would be better if he had a strike partner all you like. But if you are told to play a role, you play THAT role.

He makes zero effort to get in the box on the end of crosses.

Definitely, I said a week or two ago, Saha needs to be allowed to build his confidence up again, which is why he's snatching at what chances he does get and messing them up. I think to do this he ought to playing for the reserves for a few weeks where he'd be facing a lower standard of defender, rather than turning out for the first team, of course that's not Saha's fault that he keeps being picked to start. I think he's still capable of getting a goal for us, but he needs to be allowed time to regain his confidence in the reserves. I'd say most of the hatred is due to him consistently being picked ahead of players who have done more to earn their place.

Nonsense. If Moyes didn't want him to do that then he wouldn't.

Moyes likes his strikers coming deep to get the ball and bringing the midfield into play. He doesn't like the 'fox in the box' type.

See Yakubu at Everton vs Yakubu at Blackburn for a highly relevant example. Steve Kean said he knew his weaknesses and so was just going to try and get him on the end of as many things as possible. That's what he's done.

What you might perceive as zero effort I see as him under orders about where and when to move, plus him conserving energy so as to not break his knees for the 4000th time.

I couldn't agree more , Louis when fit and on form was a magnificent striker and I'll always remember his 4 vs Blackpool last year.. in that form there were fewer players better than him . He doesn't deserve some of the comments directed at him

Saha is a quality player but the problem is he cant play alongside Cahill. He's scored maybe one goal in 2 and a half years when partnered with Tim. (Beginning of 09/10 Cahill was in a deeper role during that injury crisis).

So something has to give ... either Cahill or saha must go or be dropped. It has to be either/or, not both. Remember when Tim went to Asia cup, all of a sudden Louis started banging them in left right and centre..

That is my point. And it's no coincidence -- he played with another striker and then with a creative presence behind him in that time. It worked. It is not complicated.

Cahill however is the first name on the team sheet which these days is a travesty in itself. I love the man but our dependency on him, whilst unhealthy last year, is suicidal this year.

To be honest, I struggle to put into words just how bad he has been this season, and he has definitely missed chances, easy ones. Blackburn most recently and Bolton and Newcastle away spring to mind, and I still think he could've done more with his "chance" against Villa. If he had really WANTED to score, that minor pull would not have stopped him. Do you think Cahill would have let a shirt pull stop him from scoring a free header into an open net? I don't, and I happen to think Tim has been poor this year, but he still looks like he is trying at the very least.

Saha has flattered to deceive since he signed, and until this season has always had the knack of managing to score out of the blue when he is playing at his very worst, seemingly justifying his selection. But Moyes has stood by him almost blindly through the lackadaisical performances, and the missed chances (including numerous missed penalties, FFS). Others have played better and been dropped for less than he has. I honestly think his alleged pedigree, a reputation stemming from playing for both France National Team and Man Utd, has clouded a lot of peoples judgements to his actual ability, in much the same way Phil Neville has, who has over the years, offered little more to us than Tony Hibbert, other than apparent "Leadership" qualities on the pitch.

But I digress. Football is all about opinions, and in my opinion, Saha has been one of our poorest performers for some time. I was excited initially, when we signed him, for his reputation did precede him. But honestly, I was tired of him before we even reached the cup final, especially given how some people seemed to inexplicably favour him over the Yak.

If we can somehow manage to swap him for Pienaar, I will be ASTOUNDED. In my mind, it is almost on the same level as Liverpool's outrageous Carroll / Tevez swap suggestion. And that is why I am not going to let myself be pulled in by it.

Things that good don't come for Everton.

Totally agree. He has been going through the motions for a lot longer than this season. Everything he does is slow and laboured. Poor decision-making like shooting with his weaker foot from 30 yards. Just doesn't seem arsed at this stage of his career. A move to WHL would see him do a lot better under Harry Redknapp the few times he'll be on the pitch. He's not helped by Moyes in fairness though. If Moyes had played him with a partner I'm sure Saha would have appeared more motivated to help us win games. I want Saha out and it's not a hate thing.
