Players out on loan 2024/25

Its so hard to get these loans right, the ones that were beginning to look alright both picked up injuries, similar to Mills laast year.

I don't necessarily think we have gained that much by loaning players out to league 1/2, its been the same for a good few years
There are always exceptions but generally if you're going to league 2 on loan over the age of 18 the chances of you making it here are pretty slim. Even league one is borderline, you're hoping maybe it's because someone is a slightly late bloomer. Most of them are more likely to be going on loan for their own development/to facilitate a move rather than with a view to coming back here as a first teamer.

It does feel like that but then we managed to make £9/10m from Dobbin. Does that happen if he hadn't spent a season with Derby in league one?

It only takes one of these loans to work to justify the entire system.
I'd argue that was more to do with his exposure in the Premier League the following year than a middling League 1 loan. I suppose the Tyrer situation is probably one were if he gets his place back and done well, there would be money to be made

Its why i think its sensible that someone like Armstrong doesn't jump out there straight away. Training with Premier League level players every day at teh age of 17 is probably more beneficial than the cut throat world of league 1/2.

Dixon might be a different story, but you would hope he could garner a Championship loan or Belgium or somewhere.
League 1 is the weakest its been for a good few years, so I'd steer clear of even the sides at the top of the table

I’d agree with most of that but it’s generally accepted that the top of League 1 is the STRONGEST it’s been for years. The points per game of the current top 2 is way above last season and the next 9 clubs are above or close to what was needed to get in the 4 team play offs last season . Some of the top clubs, Birmingham is the obvious example , are spending rather than going for loans, others have managed to get successful loans. The best example is Villa’s Louie Barrie at Stockport , 11 goals so far this season, 21,same age as Dobbin but as you said in an earlier post, Dobbin has PL experience which helped his transfer fee so Villa have decisions to make. I think we have to accept that most of our u21s are League1/2 standard and loans won’t make them PL standard, Championship and PL experience does seem to bring in more money when we sell.

Portsmouth, Derby, Sunderland, Ipswich, Sheff Wed, Plymouth & Hull have all left that division now.

Obviously there are still the likes of Bolton, Blackpool, Birmingham, but they don't have the same quality those other teams had at the time.
Most of the quality comes from the teams coming from league 2

Louie Barry (not Barrie) is a huge anomaly to that sort of example.

There will always be 1/maybe 2 players in that league that arre playing above there level, but Barry is nowhere near the quality of other wingers that have played in league 1 in previous years. Jack Clarke, Brennan Johnson, Morgan Rogers

?? Sorry I genuinely don’t understand your point . I said Barry , sorry misspelt earlier, was an example of a success loan , if you disagree then we’ll have to agree to disagree.

Barry is an odd one. Massive fanfare when moving from WBA to Barca, living alone at La Masia and then moved to Villa (who he supports).

Record for England Youth was insane and then he's not been selected since u18 level.

Done very well on paper for Stockport the last 2 seasons and I'm a bit surprised he's not got a loan move to a higher level.

Have to say the loans have been amazing for them.

As pointed out above, Mason Holgate put WBA ahead early on against Norwich but the game finished 2-2. Albion are 6th.

Harry Tyrer still not back in the Blackpool starting eleven. They lost 2-1 at Bolton. 5 out of 10 from the Gazette for his replacement O'Donnell who "had a number of shaky moments throughout the game with a few ill timed runs off his line". Blackpool are 19th.

Accrington's game at Bradford was a victim of the weather but they did play midweek with Billy Crellin getting 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw at Wimbledon.

No game either for Francis Okoronkwo's Salford due to a waterlogged pitch.

Eli Campbell dropped to the bench for Ross County at home to Motherwell. He came on at half time with the game goalless and helped his side to a 2-1 win. County are 8th.

Reece Welch not on the bench for Deinze who lost 3-0.

Think he's found somewere were he is comfortible, think there was a point when villa thought he was on the scrapheap.

A player just enjoying his football at that level is a great thing, why does he HAVE to look at a higher level

Yes agree, Barry, Woods, Rogers, all former Baggies players, obviously a talent for developing them but not for holding onto them 😉 🙄
