Players out on loan 2024/25

Again, not much loanee action to act as a distraction whilst I was listening to our dismal match on Radio Merseyside.

Mason Holgate was back from injury and played the whole game as WBA drew 1-1 at Swansea.

Blackpool got a late equaliser to draw 1-1 at 10 man Wycombe. Harry Tyrer conceded from a penalty and had no other saves to make so the Gazette's verdict of 6 out of 10 seems a little harsh.

Billy Crellin got a clean sheet as Accrington made it two wins on the bounce beating Colchester 2-0 away.

Good stop turning our midfielders into defenders lol

….it is quite normal to try young players in defensive positions before moving them on, some of our best ever defenders once played further upfield. Tony Hibbert played CM in an FA Youth Cup winning team, John Hurst was a very good striker before Catterick turned him into a terrific centre back.

Or maybe it should go back to grass roots level coaches being able to tell where a player should play lol

…not really. It’s such a huge leap to top flight football and the skill set is so high for forward players, very few can bridge the gap. Stan Mills is one I thought as an ideal candidate for full-back given his athleticism, attacking quality and attitude.

But stanley mills is a 20 year old RM and a PL team should we not have the coaches to identify his true posistion by now?

…..it’s a matter of seeing if he can use his skill set to bridge the gap to the top flight in a defensive capacity. It’s nothing new, I signed for the RS as a prolific schoolboy/youth goalscorer in the early ‘70s and before we parted company I played a few times at RB.
