Im pretty certain Alan Thompson never played for us, joined Celtic from Bolton and had a great career up north, supplying Henrick Larsson and Chris Sutton, made the Uefa cup final and got absolutely hosed by Mourinho's Porto.His form earned him an England call up and was on standby list for a major tournament if memory serves me right.

Are you sure on him? I'm no expert on ex players mind so if he did play for us that's the best example on on here!

Looking at his Wikipedia page you're right. In the doc Peter Reid is shown bollocking his team at half time against Everton and he definitely says "I know it's difficult, you've got Barmby dropping in the hole and Thompson out on the wing." It triggered a memory of Alan Thompson signing from Bolton, which apparently never happened.

Was Reidy pronouncing the name wrong - Tony Thomas maybe??
