Playing in the Premier League

The last Premier League game I watched not involving Everton, I actually couldn't tell you. It must be at least two seasons. I don't even watch the Champions League. I still want us to stay up mind.
Tbh I’m not far off, I watch a few highlights here and there but the last few seasons Iv switched off really. Before that I’d watch most PL games if I had the spare time.

I’ve spent years laughing at and taking the piss out of mates who support Leeds and Bolton.
Justifiably they’ll give it back big time if we go down.
It’s this that I’m dreading and im not sure how I’ll handle it.
It’s this more than anything that says we must retain Premier League status

Tbh mate, you'll be getting what you deserve. I know that isn't the comforting assurance you'll be seeking.?

I’m interested to know everyone’s thoughts on why they want to stay up this season and continue in the Premier League. It Might sound like a daft question but everyone has their own reasons. I hope we stay up but Iv been bored and fed up with the PL for years now just making up the numbers, the bias to the big clubs etc.

What’s your reason?

Do you enjoy the league
Do you hope we compete for Champions league again one day?
Is it financial reasons for the club?
Another reason?
It's a fair question. We've got no real chance of winning the league in the next ten years maybe more. We've got a slightly better but still not entirely realistic chance of making the CL. Europa or the Conference League would be fun and is probably the highest we can really hope to achieve regularly but even then we're years away. So I guess given that we're probably not competing at a high level either way it doesn't matter that much.

The financial thing is the biggest problem. The club could get wound up if we're down for awhile.

But really I'm not sure otherwise I care. It's all very tedious to me now. I don't think having a hierarchy of clubs this entrenched makes for great sport and I guess the naivety of thinking it could be broken has been worn off by seeing City get 95+ points every year.

It's a shame because I love football, City versus Madrid today was gripping stuff, but even that wasn't actually that tight of a contest level of play wise. City were way better. And that's against Real Madrid. How are Everton meant to be competitive with that?

I like car racing.

Would you much rather be a 10-15 year F1 driver without getting a win, or win a series like the BTCC?
Being the player/driver and being a fan aren't the same thing.

F1 is similar to football where Haas isn't going to compete with Red Bull the same as Southampton can't stay with Chelsea.

So it's a matter of can you find enjoyment in smaller success. It's a tough one for me because for awhile it's been possible. 13/14 and 16/17 were very fun seasons even though we win nothing and didn't really finish that high. But I'm not sure that'll happen again because I don't think I can convince myself it is the start of something when I know it most likely isn't.

You know what? You're right!

I'd much rather, by miles, see Daniel Ricciardo continue to get flogged by Lando Norris than see him pick off the BTCC.

Oh ****! I sort of could see the benefitslong term in getting relegated. But when it's put that way. We're ******! :(

i would gladly take the corruption all day long

then being in that other bin of a league
I also think we have a better chance of building a better squad if we stay in the premier league rather than trying to build again in the championship, more chance of signing players, how many decent players would want to come to an average team in the championship because that’s what we will become if we go down.
My sentiments exactly guys.

This idea that we’d be better off becoming a lower league club just because we’d get more wins is absurd.

Are people seriously saying that a win over Millwall is more satisfying than a draw away at Arsenal?

It’s true that we would win more matches in the Championship, but we would win even more games in League One. So maybe it would be a good idea to aim for League One.

Morecambe away would be a better day out than Spurs away or Man Utd away. And we’d have a better chance of winning. Why would we want to draw at Old Trafford when we can win at Morecambe? In fact we’d probably win every game.
