They will have to sell to buy players, much talk of the academy types like Gallagher and Chalobah and others all leaving as it's straight profit on the books.
They really do have some quality players who they should be using in swap deals to bring in other quality players in exchange while navigating FFP.
Obviously we need real cash and may not attract them but an Onana / Gallagher swap for example would give us a bit of cash and sort both clubs FFP.
I think we may see something like this with Guimaraes in and one or two of theirs out
Which is so weird to me. They were a mess to begin the season with a million new signings that didn't fit in any cohesive unit.
Poch actually got them playing some great football in the second half of the season, building their whole attack around Cole Palmer.
Now it's back to square one, and I'm elated.
If they didnt have him as manager perhaps Palmer may have flopped or at least not progressed as much under someone else.
Other than him though, im not sure Enzo Fernandes or Caicedo in the middle have done anything special over the season. £230mil there on two players.
Always seemed an odd pairing that wouldn't ever work. Not quite Benitez at Everton levels, but he's a slow builder and Chelsea are a club that thrives on chaos. They always do well with managers who have big egos and make it all about them and take the pressure off the players.
Poch will probably land another good club before long, don't think this season has really done him any damage just like the spell at PSG never. They're just those sort of jobs that nobody ever expects a manager to stay long-term. Might possibly land at Bayern now, surely Kane will push for him and the Bundesliga might actually suit him as a league.
Chelsea should probably go for an older manager now to hold the fort down for a bit but they'll likely go for another project coach. People seem to rave over Kompany for some reason (Burnley were a joke this season) and also Kieran McKenna. Either will be a disaster imo.
What is odd to me is that they signed all the kids and brought in a manager who is known for being good at building (Southampton & Spurs) got them into a good position and yet they expected what?
Instant success? If thats the case sign Mourinho.
Kompany had Burnley looking like one of the most exciting Championship sides ever last season yet in this one they were absolute shambles. So many goals given away because of a ridiculous persistence in over-playing at the back. Football has become all about perception though.
A few posters incl myself thought Kompany would continue playing a similar way all season.
That way the top clubs would see he would play that way with them and as their players are better he could bring success....and his reputation attracts players.
He wouldnt manage to stay in the league, more to show himself off.
Bring him in with a plan to overhaul 80%, or more, of the squad and build around Jarrad.
Damn, there I go again thinking we have money.
Alot can change in 12months time.
I think so. But I think he caught on quick he can't work like that. He still had a say or input at Brighton as they were all aligned
Potter has the style that suits underdogs...its not what the favourites want.
Pochettino struggled to win the French League in a one horse race. I don't get him at all, never have.
I think any premier league side would need to hire him and give him 3 seasons and cash to gradually build.
In a similar way weve seen Dyche keep us up in 17th then without the deductions finish 12th this season.
With money it may be argued he could bring in a few players and take us to 8th-10th next season. Thats something Pochettino and Potter for example i think would be good at. Gradual improvements.
