Possible Director of Football

I've never been a huge fan of Directors of Football, I think they can often have very different agendas to the manager which can cause a lot of conflicts (just look at the 'transfer committee' over the park), however, if we pick the right man, it could work very well.

I don't think its needed. Certainly not essential but it can be useful if the manager and sporting director are working in tandem and the manager is the one who actually picks his signings and the director handles the rest.

If done badly though it can essentially ruin your season and if the sporting director becomes too important it can cause issues down the line.

In short I dont think we should do it unless its under certain circumstances and that the roles of the sporting director are limited to just sorting out signings that the manager has picked him self.

Often fails in England for a reason

In the interim, I reckon you couldn't go too far wrong with Joe Royle doing the job

As much as I love Joe I think it is this image of. D of F we might need to get away from...an experienced old soul, no longer in management. Why shouldn't a D of F be as ambitious, progressive, ruthless as any manager who really wants it. Someone at the centre of the action, a leader, a setter and enforcer of policy. For me, this role is one for the head hunters more so than a manager, whose achievements tend to be more public ally known.

Interim mate, interim. No longer than mid June. Someone with strong links all across the club, knows the game, will have plenty of contacts, knows what a pre-season schedule should look like etc etc.

Then he gets replaced with a modern football mind and we move on.

To avoid any possible conflict it might have been preferable to have aD of F in place ahead of a new manager but the timings are against us here.

Get it now. Good idea.
