As discussed here, we've today started trialling a new post rate system.

Previously members could 'Like' a post. Now, they can 'Like' or 'Dislike' ('KOF') a post. Those who have been posting for a while will remember it being similar to the rep system, but without the ability to comment.

The developers reckon it;

• Increases daily posts.
• Improves signal to noise ratio; less short/unnecessary posts
• Improves quality of posts (posters want to avoid negative ratings)
• Makes lurkers useful for something and gives them a means of interaction

And, it can help self moderate - there's a setting that allows 'x' amount of dislikes to place a post in a moderation queue.

We'll be tweaking the system over the next week or two to see if it can work. Be mindful that if we notice people taking the piss with it (targeting members etc) then we'll revoke access and it'll be a mark in the against category for the feature...

I will just say this generally.

When a like dislike (or rep system) is abused for the novelty of it and therefore render the dislike (or neg) option a joke then it makes the whole thing pointless waste of time to even use it as anything other than the opposite of what it is meant for.

so keep negging me @Ernie you smart arse. Because all you are achieving is by sticking my name at the top of a member list to remind you of me long after i stop posting. Quite the opposite of the intended effect eh? Why bother giving me any sort of mention because i sure as hell can't be arsed posting any more.

Shame that mate , good luck anyhow and nice one for the match previews.

Get a grip Ash. It's a discussion forum on the internet. Someone pulling your pud by disliking all your posts really shouldn't get to you.

Likes are nice, it's good to know people share your viewpoint, but it's that posts that really matter, not the likes.

So you only come here to garner likes? It's not the verbal content and engagement?

The point of a forum is to chat, whether it's wham or meaningful content. Like I say, it's nice to get a like if I post something witty, or someone agrees with me, but I much prefer to a 'someone quoted you' in my notifications.

This is why I love neg rep - it highlights the cryarses and attention seekers and lays them bare for all to see.

It's likes and dislikes on a sodding football forum - you can't even leave little snide message anymore so what's the problem?

Once it all settles down, this place is going to be all the better for its reintroduction.
