As discussed here, we've today started trialling a new post rate system.

Previously members could 'Like' a post. Now, they can 'Like' or 'Dislike' ('KOF') a post. Those who have been posting for a while will remember it being similar to the rep system, but without the ability to comment.

The developers reckon it;

• Increases daily posts.
• Improves signal to noise ratio; less short/unnecessary posts
• Improves quality of posts (posters want to avoid negative ratings)
• Makes lurkers useful for something and gives them a means of interaction

And, it can help self moderate - there's a setting that allows 'x' amount of dislikes to place a post in a moderation queue.

We'll be tweaking the system over the next week or two to see if it can work. Be mindful that if we notice people taking the piss with it (targeting members etc) then we'll revoke access and it'll be a mark in the against category for the feature...

Depends how big a whinger the person getting them is.

Just wondering as i've seen a few posts with a lot of dislikes, also generally what's your view on this new thumbs up system, been 3 weeks now and after the 12 year olds had their fun at the start it seems to have settled down.

Is it proving useful? Or are you thinking about taking it away again? If you dare!

No idea to be honest. Dan will probably know. As for the success or otherwise of it, as you say, it does appear to have calmed down significantly, almost to the extent that it barely seems to be used.

Next time then speak up soft lad. I've just searched your posts in this thread and shock, horror - nothing constructive. All you do is cry arse about this forum.

Personally I don't think it's been a failure, it's still here - usage of the like system is up - it's not being abused and it's serving it's purpose;

I've never been convinced this plugin is good enough, this is really mainly stress test for potentially commissioning a bespoke system for XenForo 2.0 (next version/platform for our forum software);

There's positives.
There's negatives.

I thought the first post in this thread highlighted them pretty clearly.

If it works, great.
It it doesn't, we'll remove it.

We have an environment that readily allows for practice > theory.

Just had a quick review and;

I fully agree that fuming over it is stupid.

Just always makes me laugh whenever neg rep gets mentioned (or implemented in this case). Someone gets neg bombed and fumes about it, loads of people tell them not to take it seriously.

Yet there's defo some people who aren't just having a laugh and take it so seriously that they are geniunely getting excited about being able to neg rep someone to make them fume. Which makes them just as stupid. Even more so considering they don't seem to realise.

Listen to your own advice.

I simply asked a genuine question mate, i've seen posts with dislikes into double figures and wondered if they were being picked up by the mods (not my posts), and how'd the mods think the system was working, that's all.

I got a decent reply off Bruce but a stupid one from you so i made a stupid one in reply. I don't think it's been a failure, i agree with you, after the iniatial burst it's settled down and seems to be serving it's purpose, i simply asked if the mods agreed and if there was a limit to the amount of dislikes a post got before it got picked up, as in is the self moderating working cause posts that recieve a lot of dislikes usually get them for a genuine reason.

And yes, as people asked, there's a certain user who gets a lot of dislikes to their posts who prompted me to ask the question, obviously i can't name names cause the mods don't like that but IT'S NOT ME.

I'm honestly quite gutted you think i'm crying about getting dislikes, thought i'd made my views on that well known, i couldn't give a crap mate, in fact i laughed when certain posters went back through my post history negging every one. Unless you think i've been fuming about it for 3 weeks and i got so upset i asked a simple question?
