So did they only shut down the training ground and that at 4pm ? Surely they would have known sooner so why did they/premier league wait till 4 hours before the game to postpone and not well earlier

Because City were already a game behind, are going well in European competition, in the semi final of the League Cup and could also go far in the F.A.Cup, the game will be played during a fixture pile up and only when City actually have a chance to fit it in.

Nailed on it will be the 17th of February, just before we have the Anfield derby on the 21st (champions league the week after).

This is about the only break available that would be acceptable unless it’s even further delayed.

There’s a small gap between the gameweeks of 7th to 14th of Feb, but their Villa game was delayed first and should be played first.

Defo something fishy going on with this. Feature on The Athletic by the Man City correspondent says games can only be cancelled if there’s less than 14 players available..... they have 5 players (inc the Xmas day 2) struck with it so shouldn’t have any issue pulling 14 players together unless the latest 3 are all keepers..... don’t necessarily agree with PL rules but if they’ve established a protocol and criteria to cancel games be interesting to see if they have in fact been met.
As many others said, tbh it might have been a blessing given the lack of rest between games but equally run of form, with fans behind them etc we’ll never know now.
Also Man City we one of the main proponents of 5 subs in the vote the other week, presumably because of their squad depth etc.

Yeah obviously I want a cup, I want them all. The only way to do that is to get better players and a larger quality squad. We do that by getting Champions League football. We can then attract better players. The odds were against us for winning the least desirable cup of them all and we ended up coming away with our most influential player injured

It’s immaterial now but most resurgent (Man City, chelsea) teams have started with a cup. It’s just breaks the cycle.
Top four is harder to achieve with a limited squad beyond the first 11

If you test positive then the 14 day quarantine doesn't apply.
They are good to go as soon as they test negative.

The 10-14 days is to give people a chance to catch it and get over it if they come into contact with it.

Fair point mate, but if you catch it, you've generally got it for 8-10 days.

My thoughts are that it was postponed cos they didn't know the extent of the outbreak and were concerned it was fairly widespread.

If they manage to isolate the positives there's no reason why they cant fulfil future fixtures.

But we shall see what unfolds.

Isolate the positives = herding kittens tho mate. You can isolate today's positives but what about tomorrow's? It's the lag in identification of a positive that's the problem.

Mind you we'd assume the clubs are testing players every day now...

We did in the mid 80s, against Watford, regular winning form always starts with cups, it's why for mid table clubs in a winless streak cups are always more important then league form.
It's why Jose targets the league cup every place he does.

They’ve got so many games, fixture pileup way more of an issue for them not us and the postponement yesterday (unless the 3 points are genuinely up for grab if we lawyer up) is the best outcome for our season
