Match Thread POSTPONED: Everton v Manchester City - Preview only

Everton have just paid ground staff for work. 2,000 fans have just taken largely unnecessary COVID tests and possibly spent money on travel. The team have just trained and prepared for a game only for it to be called off arbitrarily at a few hours notice.

There has to be some sort of comeuppance for all this, or clubs could cause chaos whenever they wanted to.

I'm not sure a cluster of positive tests at a single club during a pandemic counts as arbitrary.

Aston Villa - Newcastle was due to be played 4th December.

The game was confirmed as being postponed on 1st December.

Yet Everton don't get told anything until after the PL allow Man City to postpone the match.
Cos footy is more WWE nowadays. The media that pays the big money have their favourites, and they get accommodated.

It is when they already had a cluster of positive tests 48 hours earlier and the game wasn't called off.
The fact their cases were on the rise just 48 hours later though, shows that it wasn’t contained and calling it off was absolutely the right thing to do.

Their previous game possibly shouldn’t have went ahead, but from an Everton perspective, at least our squad has avoided coming into contact with them.

Plenty of games have gone ahead with very small numbers of positive tests at the club involved. It's feasible that those testing positive have been infected elsewhere and so long as further testing doesn't reveal new cases at a club then it's fair to say the outbreak is contained.

When that small number becomes a larger number with subsequent testing then that suggests an uncontrolled outbreak within the "bubble". That's a different issue.

Nothing that hasn't already happened elsewhere this month.

Newcastle fans must be understandably fuming, they already had squad issues because of an outbreak and City could very well have given them more.
