I don't think it's like that, just some people are far more widely known, so there are that many people to feel that loss to some degree.
I bow my head when a hearse drives past,. I don't know the deceased or their family, but I have respect for their loss. Many people are feeling some loss right now, so I'm not going to do cartwheels across their mourning.
I'm not a tory or a royalist btw, it's not about that.

It's really odd but on the same day an elderly lady in my apartment block died but it was quite unexpected she had a sudden heart attack while at the local shops,I've probably spoken with her when passing on the stairs a few times a month over the last twenty years or so. Sad but she had a decent innings. Never crossed my mind to switch the TV off for hours and I won't be sitting in church staring at her coffin.

I think some of the things happening/not happening because of this death are absolutely ridiculous, but you can hardly blame the Queen for that.. can you? Whatever you think of the monarchy, don't let that turn you into a disrespectful hater, trampling on other people's feelings.
Some people knee jerk and go to far, it happens around anything big. Stop picking and choosing what outrages you, based on your political ideals.
I'll state once more, I'm not tory or Royalist, just decent.. and understanding of what death really means to people.

I don't disagree that some have taken this too far. But as you say, let's not have that get in the way of decency and respect.

Obviously not a problem to either of us,just sad to see so many exhibiting behaviour that borders on a form of mass hysteria. I'm an interested occasional visitor to Facebook page that shows pictures of Old London. A day or so ago it was being plastered with pictures of the late lamented Lizzie. Another member asked quiet reasonably what had happened to the usual pictures of London. The response from the royalist members was extreme to say the least,they all went a bit,North Korean.

There's plenty of overkill with this kind of thing but the idea of a minutes silence, national anthem and then a further minutes applause is understandable. The Queen of the country has died after a 70 year reign. That's not something that happens every other weekend.

If I was still a match-going blue I'd be in the concourse for the silence or national anthem and only clapping/fuming in reaction to events on the field during the 70th minute. The shouts of oppression and being forced to endure are as mental as any of the hysterical grief porn doing the rounds. And the idea of being actively disruptive is just pure self centred egotistical attention seeking on par with a 4 year old acting out.

The problem with this preposterous spectacle is that people in the middle - people like me who are republican by nature but who would not disrespect any minute's silence - are being prodded into open revolt against the ludicrousness now enveloping them. I would quietly observe any minute's silence. I don't have to respect the monarchy, but I respect the feelings of those who do. However, it seems that some of those people want to enforce their will on the rest of society. That's not going to end well.

You have a choice mate , you don't have to do anything .
Just sit in your seat and treat it like any other match.
No one will think any different of you .

Oh come on Mike, yours is far more of the "they're only putting the game on so we can boo, and they can write bad things about us" variety and you hinted that ours is on- and the RS's is off for these reasons. Also, if we do roundly boo, then the media will jump on it....which is to be expected The RS didn't boo last night, just had a few p*ssheads shouting the name of their team and ours will be similar (observed well by 99%, with a few shouting F- the Tories, probably).
