Look if it's for the funeral I understand as it's a security and policing issue.
But this 'mark of respect' is pure rubbish.
She's just an old woman, who cannot relate to us peasants in any shape or form. We live in a society where people freeze to death in their homes or starve to death while holding down full time jobs.
Where is the mourning or respect for them?
Call me a joke all you want but I think it's obscene that we are forced into mourning someone who doesn't give to hoots about our wellbeing.
She isn't a real head of state anyway, merely an outdated relic of a time of exploiting the rest of the world. I will not lick the boot.
As for the virtue signalling I hate all of that as well.
But we are a nation. (If you don't want to be in it, fine - but so long as you enjoy the benefits of NHS, fire protection state security etc, you have to put up with other stuff you don't like, just like I do). Its a sign of national respect. People in mourning don't really want to hear signs of revelry elsewhere - just as if you were at a funeral you might not appreciate a loud, raucous, singing hen party going past in your time of reflection.

Nobody is stopping our self entitlement to having fun. Just lock yourself in your bedroom and do it quietly!

did you complain about your days off work for the jubilee celebration? got to take the rough with the smooth my man.

It's really got nothing to do with class. There's no right or wrong answers to this and people see things differently. Some sports are going ahead and that's fine, some sports are not going ahead and that's also fine.

People's opinions on this are way too strong.
What about all the people who are left out of pocket by this. People with flights, trains hotels and that paid for . They don't matter as usual. And for what really.

Maybe so but at the end of the day that is all it is.

I find lots more things more exiting than footy. In fact it just depresses me now so glad in a way I get a free week.
It's strange that you sound so grounded, positively detached and boast of having your priorities clear yet regularly watch a sport you are glad to not watch ?

I'm Welsh mate I literally don't want to be in a certain 'nation' you mention.
So yeah I just can't respect it. I respect her family have experienced loss and they should have a funeral, quietly as should any other family

Because it's irrelevant. It makes no odds either way.

If they played them I'd be ok. They're not though and I'm still ok.

More important things in my life than a game of footy regardless of this weeks events.
I'm fine with the decision to postpone but I think your comments are a bit unfair here. I've got plenty of important things in my life thanks, but I've made plans around going to this game (and spent a fair bit of money) and it's a bit of a pain that it's now not going to happen. I'm also aware that some people haven't actually got much going on in their lives, and football gives them an outlet and maybe even a social life that they otherwise wouldn't have. I'm not sure you really need to get on your high horse and tell everyone else their life is rubbish because you're not bothered whether Everton play or not.

Diana's death was actually tragic too. Took in the prime of her life in quite shady circumstances.

The Queen just died of old age. It's kind of sad if you are into that kind of thing but hardly unexpected of anything.
There are people who define themselves by their love of the royals, particularly the Queen.

There was a guy in Windsor this morning saying she meant as much to him as his own mother. It doesn’t even matter if that’s true or not - the fact someone would say it on national TV suggests we’re going to see some extraordinary performative grief.

I've lost flights or hotels before, happenned me last year with covid. Had games moved to monday night before. It's very frustrating, so I get it.

Just don't think this is anywhere near as black and white as people are making out. It's not wrong to play or call games off, because this has never happened before in our lives and people aren't sure what the best thing to do is. The FA/PL/EFL were going to get a big backlash whatever decision they made, so they couldn't win.

There are about 50 professional football matches in England every weekend. I'm guessing policing is a big issue as well, especially in and around London.
