Excellent post, I agree on all counts.
I laughed when someone on CNN said that healthcare for all is just not possible, well it works in the UK its not perfect but it works.
I imagine if less was spent on the military and more spent on healthcare and helping the comman man that the U.S. would become a better country for all Americans and not just the elitist top 5%.
I absolutely agree, the college i attend is pretty pricey, about 50k a year including room and board (and no i could never afford that, i'm here on scholarship), so you can guess that many people here are pretty wealthy. well, the school is full of kids who's parents work for companies like boeing and lockheed, companies that exploit the US's proclivity towards absurdly high military spending.
I can only pray that the fear tactics of the Bush administration will now come to an end, as it was largely the climate of fear that the government generated that allowed them to justify so much spending.
