Is anyone objecting to the restart so much that they arent going to watch on TV?

On a moral standpoint? No. I think the whole thing is daft but I won't be watching because it's the summer and I have other things I'd rather be doing.

I may watch one or two but I've no appetite for it. It's not the same competition it was with no supporters and no VAR and is just an exercise in meeting contractual obligations.

not sure who you’ve been speaking to and what clubs they support but I know my friends who are mainly Spurs, Man Utd, Chelsea, Cardiff and Everton fans couldn’t give the smallest amount of Effs for this restart. Everyone knows that it’s nothing more than an extended pre season where apart from the relegation teams nobody has anything to play for. BBC and Sky can try and hype it up all they want but come this time next week when the title has probably be won* I can see there being a massive drop in figures.

for some more perspective the Spurs forum that I use has a big thread asking the question “have you missed football?” now there maybe obvious reasons such as Mourinho, playing [Poor language removed] football and nothing left to play for But the resounding response was no and most won’t renew their sky subscriptions etc. A lot of people are actually saying how much they’ve enjoyed the break from it and that they are disappointed to see it come back and that this enforced break has made them reassess how they follow the game.

There’s also an overwhelming dislike of RS on there aswell so I think people are disappointed that it’s coming back as they wanted the null and void scenario to play out just for the lol’s.

To be honest the anecdotal quotes from people we know isn’t what will show how interested the general public are anyway.

The fact that the Bundesliga viewership in the UK has increased tenfold is proof enough that the general public are missing live football and a lot more than that will tune in to the Premier League matches.

For reference the biggest prem games on BT last year were getting about 1 million viewers in the UK. Nearly 300,000 people have been watching Bayern’s games in empty stadiums...

I need a fix of DCL and Richarlison even though I'm currently against this garbage, It depends how we play against Norwich if we're not even turning up to them I'll just ignore it till the season ends.

I've changed my mind the last few days - I'm interested in the how it'll affect certain teams, how the games will be different without fans etc. I think I'm a bit different to a lot on here in that I don't really enjoy going to the match anymore, some of it is the stadium and general experience, but I enjoy watching a technical game of football still so am very intrigued.

Morally I think we're JUST at the right point to allow this - I was worried tests would be taken away from normal people but with the pitiful amount being tested in the general public anyway I doubt it makes a difference

The idea that these aren't going to be TV ratings boons in laughable. Any live sports in this pandemic have gotten huge numbers across the whole world.

It is so strange to me that this seems to be a minority view.

There's two camps - those who love football & will watch anything, are hungry for any information & will enjoy this restart as much, or even more than normal and those who love their team & watch football to see their team win lose or draw and enjoy the emotion that comes with it.

my personal take is the majority sit in the later and cant be bothered by this, boris' distracting, cash collecting, shambolic mess, but I guess the rating will tell some of that story

The restart is clearly money driven, I won't fight that, but on some level I don't think it is really greed as much as survival. Most clubs could probably get through but honestly missing out on a quarter of revenue or whatever it would have been to cancel these last nine games would be a major dent for some.

that's a fair point & I think any industry will be as keen as possible to "reopen it's doors" asap; my biggest issue with this how football is being used by gov to hide their absolutely catastrophic management of Covid - do not blame the teams / PL for ensuring they protect as much revenue as possible
