Right, so barely anyone then. 1m for a PL game.

32m people watched the World Cup final in 1966.

With fewer TVs and no lockdown.

More watched the 2019 FA Cup final. Again with no lockdown and it was a wet fart of a final between City and the mighty Watford.

Viewing figures will plummet through the floor from an already low base. We've had no sports for months and it was a completely free Merseyside Derby - yet it could pull in a quarter of the audience for Crocodile Dundee in the 80s because nobody gives a toss.

No but the implication was that they're rushing back and the actual interest level was not high. That's proven to be untrue and imo always was.

Not sure you can jump to that conclusion - the figures for the other free matches have been fairly poor.

There was always going to be a morbid fascination to watch one of English footballs traditionally biggest games following project restart, plus the loveables are the largest consumers of televised football globally, so they would all be watching anyway - the figures for the derby were "high" imo.

I would have thought If the thirst and desire for the return of footy was there, we would have seen even bigger numbers watching, especially as all these games were on free tv.

I think the novelty will very soon wear off with restart - even a couple of the more sane kopites I know (all two of them) have been unimpressed with it, they know it's all a sham for the betting industry to get going again - it's nothing like football should be and any true football fan knows it.

Dunno bout you all but my moral and wellbeing have soared since the footy came back - thanks fa, prem league and of course Bojo and the Tories.

Wait did you just compare a not that important league game to the World Cup final that England played in? I mean that's some standard.
