Proposed changes to the Premier league

just saw this on twitter, taken in 2017 as suggested when all these proposals started:coffee:
Surely if arsenal were involved, they would've been mentioned? Utd and the rs wouldn't let them sit in the shadows... unless they wanted it to appear less of a 'big 6' power grab and more like "2 of the world's leading teams being visionaries", as parry put it.

Our football league and it's cup competitions have been fine for a long long time but now we have fans wanting rid of a cup competition to concentrate on trying to qualify for a competition we have never qualified for, makes sense, taking one 3rd of our chance for silver away, bright thinking.

If your playing a lot of games it's because you are successful I don't see the point of changing something that isn't broken and never was broken.

I’ll be honest, I’d scrap the league cup. One cup comp is enough.
Charity shield definitely, along with all international friendlies.

But I’d also scrap the Europa league & return to a Cup Winners Cup, with only Cup Winners in a straight 2-legged knock out comp. No group stages.

I’d also switch the Champions League back to European cup, bin group stages.

the current structure of the CL and Europa league is the only thing keeping some of the European leagues afloat; if it went back to a "classic model" lust for a European Super league just accelerates

Elite psychology/delusion on show here.

Unbeknown to most, we've just had the biggest swindle in human history with the printing of money after the global financial crisis, where its pretty much all ended up in the hands/control of the elites. Trillions!
Same class of people, same mindset here.
The absolute scum.
They've tainted football enough as it is.
Get ya grubby, filthy, slimy hands off english football.

For me, I'd have the League cup as the lowest europa league spot, which none of the european-entered teams are in... this would provide some kind of year on year variation to the euro entrants.

You can't scrap the Community shield. surely the league and FA cup winners just arrange one less friendly (this exposes the root of the 'issue' IMO, because they won't drop the preseason tours of aisa/usa).

Uefa/Fifa won't scrap friendlies or change the euro comps back to knock out ... money being the main reason here for both club (champs/europa leaue) and association.

The PL summer tournament every five years is an absolute farce.

We should be giving money to the EFL anyway (I actually agree with the scrapping of parachute payments and better distributon of more funds from the EPL), as most teams are buying from there so its in the interests of 99% of the teams to keep those teams afloat (unless serious mismanagement is afoot): Case in point Godfrey... without York, where woul dhe be? same story Vardy with Stalybridge Celtic/Fleetwood etc etc etc.

Also - one vote one club. otherwise the power will continue to gravitate towards the few (which everyone sees as the issue) which will further skew the integrity of the competition.

This modern day incarnation of Liverpool is a truly evil cross-breed of a historically dreadfully selfentitled institution with no regard or remorse for the atrocities they've committed with the absolute worst that American venture capitalism has to offer.

It shows how desperate Man United are that they would do a deal with the literal devil to save their own cowardly skin.

Sadly, this protectionist cartel is not restricted to England and you will find similar odious creatures in the boardrooms of just about every major European club. Bayern Munich and Juventus in particular are two of the absolute worst for this, despite the fact they've won their own domestic leagues for a decade on the spin. Sporting competition and integrity is of absolutely no concern to these clubs, it's all about how they can maximize their revenue without spending anything at all, and what better way is there to do that than guaranteeing a Champions League place regardless of where you finish.

I hope the Premier League really fights back against this. They are hardly an organisation I care about but in comparison to most of the other major leagues, at least their is still an element of competitive intrigue about it. If left to the American vultures that own the likes of Liverpool, United and Arsenal, the absolute cheapskates that own Spurs and the oligarchs who own City and Chelsea and may see this as a way of protecting their own investments; then I'm not sure how long that will last.

Pros:
  • Immediate security of Lower League Clubs
  • Fairer distribution of wealth
  • Lighter schedule for English Clubs who are widely known to have the most intense fixture build up
  • Away ticket cap and minimum allocation benefits
Cons:
  • Unnecessary power for 9 clubs
  • Only needs 6 of those 9 to push agendas
  • Lower league teams can be undermined as feeder/youth clubs
  • Loss of two historical competitions
  • A clear power dynamic making it even more difficult for clubs to break into the elite
  • League Cup being scrapped or reduced to non-Europe teams reduces gate revenue for Lower League clubs
Unclear:
  • Will that wealth be fairly distributed to Non-League?
  • Will the reduction in fixtures be reflected in price of season tickets and TV packages?
  • Is it possible for any of the 9 to lose their status? / Is it possible for someone else to gain that status?

Yep. The truth is that retrograde steps to an old order and way of doing things isn't going to work in terms of how football clubs operate. Calling for a knockout European Cup wouldn't serve anybody's financial interests. It'd be like turkeys voting for mass slaughter during a high-profile Christian feast.

So to sum up :

If you do that, and the big six have monopolised the league, as planned, then what’s the point in playing for the League, once you know you’re not getting relegated. 1-6 secure CL places, and 7th is the League Cup.

Would they kick up a fuss if we won the FA cup and one didn’t appear in Europe?

That’s why they want to banish the League Cup, because it removes a chance of them not qualifying for the Europe where the millions are.

Always suspect the so-called big 6 for their hidden motivation which is to have a European Super League and to hell with the rest of us. However it should not be assumed that the covid crisis does mean the end of EFL clubs. I have no clue how their financial losses can be offset except definitely not by the tax payer. I would certainly scrap the League Cup. The FA Cup although suffering like the League Cup should be retained.

Honestly... Bar the voting thing, everything else is spot on and what needs to happen. Yet to hear any real argument against most of the actual plans

But yer the voting thing not the best. However, it Is a bit of a joke Mickey mouse clubs like Norwich / Fulham can have the same voting power as established clubs before they slither back down to the lower division

The stuff as it pertains to the rest of the league pyramid Is really great

Im a Fulham fan just checking out other forums to see opinions on this issue.

Had to make an account just to comment on this [Poor language removed] your spouting.

Firstly the way you talk about Fulham and Norwich is probably the same way the top 6 clubs refer to Everton.

Expected better from Everton fans who are normally classy and understand that this is a working mans game.

Fulham would vote to represent the interest of clubs like us that have aspirations just like the others that are often forgotten.

Be careful what you wish for...
