Proposed changes to the Premier league

Why does it “need to happen”?

Why do we, the fans, ”need” to see our football fix cut from 38 games per season to 34?

Why do we need to see one of a mere three domestic trophies abolished, cutting by a third our chances of winning something?

Why can they not re-distribute their wealth down the foofball pyramid irrespective of this “Big Picture” business?

Screw the RS, screw the Red Mancs and screw the horses they rode in on.
I wish it was that simple but it exists just as yet another trophy for one if the big guns. That's what the stats say.... who don't even appreciate it

For me all the league cup does is devalue the FA Cup. I think all focus shou be on that . Make it the domestic trophy and it would be a far better competition and mean that much more like it used t

less teams in the league I think would give other clubs a better chance of being competitive who don't have the depth . Look what happened to Leicester last season. Just completely lost steam because they didn't have the squad . Also the amount of games makes it so much harder for teams who break into Europe to stay there for next year. There's no chance to actually build anything and mount a sustained challenge year in year on the top 6 because all the competitions just stretches the lesser squads too much

If history has taught us anything, creating an even smaller elitist group at the top will not, ever, bring about equality.
The proposal for the Premier League to send more money down the football pyramid and even the building of real feeder clubs can be very good for clubs in all divisions. However, it can't be done in conjunction with reducing the clubs at the top that have a say in running of he premier league, for me all 20, or even all 18 clubs would need to have an equal vote.

Waving a wad of cash in front of desperate smaller clubs in order to pass through more rules that only benefit a handful of elite clubs is as underhanded as it gets.
Of course the majority EFL will support this and I don't blame them. They haven't been protected from the COVID fallout and 99.9% will never be in the position to be negatively affected by the PL rule changes. This is the equivalent of a Wonga payday loan and they're never a good thing.

Also reminds me of when political parties wave incendiary topics in front of the masses (immigration etc) to distract us while they pawn off £billions in government contracts to their party donors.
Even the fans of most EFL clubs (on twitter anyway) who of course support the financial help for lower leagues see right through the bs and are calling out the power grab attempt. We all know that the EFL needs more support, the fact they’re trying to morally blackmail other PL clubs into agreeing to it in a gross, underhand and exploitative proposal is new lows for their American mutant owners and the red Mancs who are desperately trying to cling to their relevance

We all know that the EFL needs more support

This is my main gripe. Rick Parry is moaning that the non big six premier league teams pick up a considerable amount of money compared to the remaining 72 football league clubs.

I don’t see why a side like Northampton should get more money of Premier League sides, when they’ve contributed nothing to it’s success.

The buck should be falling with himself and instead he’s passing the buck. No one could foresee the pandemic being so detrimental for as long as it has, nor it even happening.

But it happening has shown his ineptitude as a leader. “Clubs will fail to survive”, then make changes, be pro-active and not reactive, stop sides in League Two spending £2-3k a week on a single players wages, it’s not feasible.

Make sides place money into reserves for emergencies.

Ultimately Premier League sides are losing money, and whilst they’ll all survive, they’ve earned their right to the finances.

Parry is masking his failures, when what he should have been doing is making his72 clubs sustainable and able to cope with tougher times. Instead he left teams like Wigan and Macclesfield for dead.

This could be the biggest balls up of all time by the rs and mancs. They've pissed off every other club in the league and the premiere league organisation itself in one go.

Rick parry has also publicly nailed his colours to the mast, which would suggest he's been in discussion with the 2 clubs prior to this coming out. Has he made his position untenable?

At most they have pissed off 11 or 12 clubs, the Championship teams might be somewhat ambivalent to it, but its the 11 or 12 PL clubs that will have the hump (and rightly so)

Don't know what's more gauling, these proposals or the fact they've giving us special compensation to be part of the BIG 6... drives me mad.

Hopefully ourselves and say Wolves and Leicester can break into the top 4 this year. You can nearly be sure they will magically create a fair play place for the Europa league for the team that misses out. I'd like to each club including our own make a statement on this, knocking it on its head before it gains any traction. Rick Parry on talksport now talking about disparity, he helped create it.

If anyone in the 9 proposed clubs were against this, I would expect they would have spoken yesterday. There would be a rush to be the first to dissaprove. For me, this is not a two club run, but probably with the majority of the 9 & the EFL agreed in principle.

I suppose they are banking on the pressure of "saving football" getting another 4 or 5 PL teams over the line, but I cannot see that happening.

At least three other clubs should be added to what is effectively the board of the premier league, and the decision making should be that at least 9 of the 12 have to agree for things to change. This would reduce the chances of a breakaway european league forming in the future.
I would add Leicester, Villa and Newcastle to the 9 already mentioned, where if a relegation occurred the next longest serving/most succesful pl club would take their place.

This is the most maddening thing about this.

I find myself agreeing with a minister in the most incompetent, corrupt, unfeeling, right wing government in living memory.

”what would Shanks have said” about Socialist F.C. championing a cause which even the Tories think is a step too far.

...I was just thinking similar, but in respect of local fans with strong socialist political views. I wonder if their judgement is clouded and if the red mist applies. Unfortunately, I can’t gauge because I’m on lockdown.

just saw this on twitter, taken in 2017 as suggested when all these proposals started:coffee:

So at present it takes 14 clubs to make a ruling.
Perfect. Get rid of the two of em and get on with saving the league clubs without them.
# anyone?

I’ll be honest, I’d scrap the league cup. One cup comp is enough.
Charity shield definitely, along with all international friendlies.

But I’d also scrap the Europa league & return to a Cup Winners Cup, with only Cup Winners in a straight 2-legged knock out comp. No group stages.

I’d also switch the Champions League back to European cup, bin group stages.
