Proposed changes to the Premier league

I suspect this is part of the plan to set the conditions to change the CL qualifying rules. I remember reading something a few months back that for the next iteration they want qualification to be on a 5 year rolling average basis rather than just the season before position. Obviously consolidates those at the top and protects then from a year where they finish 5th or 6th as their average will see then good.

Removes any aspiration as if wolves, us, Leicester etc had a great year and grabbed say 3rd spot we would not get the CL, and maintaining that for 5 years without the CL revenue and attractiveness to players highly unlikely.

I do think all this is predicated on them finding a way of 6 slots in future tournament or else it harms those not in the 4.

Honestly... Bar the voting thing, everything else is spot on and what needs to happen. Yet to hear any real argument against most of the actual plans

But yer the voting thing not the best. However, it Is a bit of a joke Mickey mouse clubs like Norwich / Fulham can have the same voting power as established clubs before they slither back down to the lower division

The stuff as it pertains to the rest of the league pyramid Is really great

The voting thing and the resdistribution of income - other than that I reckon the majority of people could live with the proposals

As they are now, they're a disgrace, but it would only take the removal of two or three key issues to make them more palatable

Spot on
This is a business now.
You can't yearn for an Usmanov, then get twisted when the owners try to create a cartel
Best to be with those in the tent piddling out...

Why does it “need to happen”?

Why do we, the fans, ”need” to see our football fix cut from 38 games per season to 34?

Why do we need to see one of a mere three domestic trophies abolished, cutting by a third our chances of winning something?

Why can they not re-distribute their wealth down the foofball pyramid irrespective of this “Big Picture” business?

Screw the RS, screw the Red Mancs and screw the horses they rode in on.

Sounds like the big clubs taking advantage and offering up loads of dough to push their own agendas. Namely lighter schedules to help with Europe and more time to transfer, and more scope to use lower league clubs as feeders and the most sinister one which is that special voting rights.

Agree with funding the lower leagues but not at this proposed cost.

Also, Everton thrown is with Southampton and West Ham lol we're one of the only ones never to have been out of it

When Moshiri made ‘the window of opportunity’ comment a few years back it wasn’t a throwaway comment but an accurate assessment of how quickly we had to re- establish ourselves amongst the elite clubs before football moved on.
Whether this proposal gains traction or not football will continue to evolve in this general direction in the near future.
Keeping a club competitive in the top league with the exorbitant levels of wages creates an imperative for top clubs to continually increase their revenue.
Top clubs no longer rely financially on their gate money instead it is the armchair supporter who contributes most to their coffers.
While clubs in the lower leagues are struggling to stay afloat without gate money the top league continues virtually unabated.
In simple terms the top clubs have outgrown their constituency and we are left in the wake , powerless and increasingly irrelevant, little more than extras in grounds that are now filled with significant levels of football tourists if the club is successful enough.
Wenger has made some interesting comments in recent times among them is that European football will be staged at weekends in preference of the domestic competitions which will occupy the midweek slots and the ending of the transfer system. These are the observations of an intelligent and successful former manager who now works for FIFA and should not be taken flippantly. They are a further indication of the direction football is travelling.
For Everton F.C. they have to hope that they make the cut before football takes the next step in its now inevitable evolution, and remain relevant in the future.
For us as supporters we will have to decide whether we choose to continue to support them , however unpalatable we find the changes.
Or find something else to occupy our passion on Saturday’s ( or Wednesday’s).

More money down the pyramid is of course laudable in this plan.

I would however disagree on the argument that it is a joke for the likes of Norwich, Fulham etc to have equal voting rights. They have that right when they are in the PL and it is not so much about them but that they are representing the views of clubs like themselves in the 3rd or 4th little grouping of clubs (i.e. your regular bottom third finishers/yo yo clubs).

For competitive integrity, and frankly basic fairness, really important that the voices of those clubs in decision making about their league count.

Is there a petition against this yet? If so I'd appreciate a link - possibly worth stickying when one appears.

Regardless of your political persuasion Oliver Dowden MP needs support in his position that this is a power grab by the Kopites and Mancs American owners. His plans for a fan-led review seems a sensible approach and may actually result in diluting the sky grip on our game.

....Government Minister (Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden) on Sky News said his initial view is “this seems more like a power grab by elite clubs than an effort to support lower leagues’.

This is the most maddening thing about this.

I find myself agreeing with a minister in the most incompetent, corrupt, unfeeling, right wing government in living memory.

”what would Shanks have said” about Socialist F.C. championing a cause which even the Tories think is a step too far.

Waving a wad of cash in front of desperate smaller clubs in order to pass through more rules that only benefit a handful of elite clubs is as underhanded as it gets.
Of course the majority EFL will support this and I don't blame them. They haven't been protected from the COVID fallout and 99.9% will never be in the position to be negatively affected by the PL rule changes. This is the equivalent of a Wonga payday loan and they're never a good thing.

Also reminds me of when political parties wave incendiary topics in front of the masses (immigration etc) to distract us while they pawn off £billions in government contracts to their party donors.
