Proposed changes to the Premier league

Why is it about compromise? Other than EFL clubs needing cash, absolutely nobody was complaining about football in its current format. This is 2 American owned clubs trying to bastardise a sport that isn't theirs to maximise their investment. There is no other reason.

I agree, but I think it's naive to think we aren't going to have to concede something to them given they're the teams with most worldwide appeal and revenue-drawing potential. Whether we like it or not, if they threw their toys out of the pram and embarked on a closed shop European Super League, we'd be left in a glorified version of the Championship and all the money and better players would follow.

Have to laugh at some people claiming this was the RS and Man U's plan all along, put something out there that was so extreme, knowing it would get knocked back, but it would get all prem clubs round the table to sort out a financial package for the EFL.

Firmly believe they knew the initial gambit was extremely likely to get thrown out & rubbished, also firmly believe both franchises (new name) have zero interest in helping the EFL - Im sure their owners would trade the other 72 clubs for their proposal.

That said, I suspect they are pleased with the outcome of a strategic review.

I suspect they will argue mission achieved by simply provoking the debate for change (Strategy review)

I doubt they will see it being roundly condemned at rejected as a victory mate.

They also dont look like they are leading the debate altruestically, but behaving in a deplorable and selfish manner. Not a good day for the American owners.

The thing is, the strategy review now occurs with most clubs backs up, and very aware of the sort of nonsense they want. They have got peoples backs up. It would have been much easier to call for a review, and placed some of the more attainable ideas within it.

Make no mistake, the ideas theyve come up with have been roundly binned today, as I thought they would be.

The more I looked at this proposal the more sick it made me feel, the game belongs to us, not some greedy Billionaires with limited interest in game outside of money. Every member has to have their say and it needs to suit all sides.

I think lots of clubs will like plenty of the idea's but obviously not the core. where I definitely agree with you, is if I was chairman of say Crystal Palace, I wouldn't be budging an inch to accommodate anything they want now and the damage might be done

Agreed - clearly not a victory, but I didn't suggest that. I think they will be pleased that they have provoked this strategic review, or at least they are arrogant enough to congratulate themselves for it.

Completely with you on how transparent the greed is, any notion of care is gone

Genuine question, how would a closed shop super league operate, if they broke away from their respective national leagues ? I can't see that it would be any more attractive to neutrals, so would all the money gravitate towards that product? I appreciate that Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Man. Utd have global fanbases, but is that true of all of the current CL teams? I would not be interested in watching such a narrowly defined competition, in fact I never watch the CL now, and would only be interested if Everton qualified.
