Proposed changes to the Premier league

The whole Celtic 'thing' has lost a huge amount of its appeal in Ireland (south of the border) from what I see. Since the demise of Rangers the annual Old Firm ties have been one-sided for years added to which Celtic's European performances have been rank over recent seasons. Where a kid wearing a Celtic shirt to football training would have been quite common place, 5-10 years ago here that is now almost totally gone. It's all the CL clubs now, RS, Utd, some City, PSG, Barca and Juve. Even Shamrock Rovers are prominent with kids now. Celtic are just irrelevant, not on tv and not noticed by kids as the next generation of tv consumers here.
Dont get me wrong they are still prominent up north - as are Rangers - but that is for sectarian historic reasons. The kits etc are way less prominent in shops here now and tend to be worn in public by your anti mask / yellow vest protest about anything type. Call it the equivalent to a Brexit kit here.

Is that the funding model?

As for the first point, not officially no. But they will have given consent for them to be briefed with their names on. It could just be a pressure play for the review, as they know they are in a demonstrably weaker position now going into it. Tactically though, it seems a poor move, as surely clubs just become more enyrenched against them as they know they are likely going to getloads more money with this super league, so why would they want to make it easier for them to do so, and give them even more money from the PL?
Yes it is.

It’s nothing but a poorly conceived veiled threat, that follows the advice given to them by Parry. But there can be no repercussions as they’ve not officially done or said anything. Utterly pointless.

I don't know Catcher. For sure it is a nuanced debate, given all of the political challenges that come with it. My argument would be that while there is definitely an association with Celtic and "being Irish" & they certainly fit the bill of the Irish bar we associate with Marmaris or anywhere else from Peru to Paris but I don't believe that converts to a massive demand to see their matches, if it was there would be demand for the SPL now.

For perspective, the 2019 TV revenue from the total of the SPL was €51m, the same as the Netherlands and less than Austria (€69). The Portugese league is almost 5 times as valuable & the PL generated 68 times as much in TV revenue as the SPL in 2019.

Sure the romance might be there, but if the Global demand was there, it would be there already. The unlikely event of them moving to the PL isn't going to change that significantly, especially given the Old firm fixture, which is already in place will always be their key game.

My point would be does that actually turn into demand to watch them &

The SPL holds them back, if they were in the PL it becomes very different.

Just for clarity, it was not an Irish bar in Marmaris. It was an explicit Celtic Bar, alongside a Rangers bar. I have never seen a "Chelsea" bar anywhere in the world.

And if they played in the PL, that would revert almost overnight.

haha, this reminds me of the spoon in the celtic jersey outside croke park protesting about soccer being played there!

I find it Ironic that Manchester United are pushing for privileges for the “Big-6” clubs when currently they are much closer to relegation than the top 6 clubs in the premier league.

I am not in favour but as with the P/L when started its inevitable
Football now a global brand , Clubs are competing for the global support to sell their brand
overseas connection to the club is less based on success in the P/L but more the C/L

They are committing to the league

OK well that should also mean committing to the structures the league is part of and binds into, such as the FA Cup, League Cup and playign UEFA acredited European competitions which provide places on merit not reputation. It also means not negotiating with any other rival conglomerates behind the leagues back and without their say so.

That is the concrete of "committment to the league". Do they pass that test?

Obviously there are still a lot of old firm fans in Ireland, both north and south. But in my experience, there are far fewer old firm fans in NI these days. I know a couple of big fans but their kids aren't really interested in Scottish football, and support United, Liverpool, Arsenal etc instead. It's more of a passing interest for lots of people now. They look out for the scores but support Premier League teams.

They are big clubs, but I don't think either Rangers of Celtic would survive in the premier league.

They'd both get regular crowds of 60k and in time would more than hold their own in the PL. Almost certainly one or both being invited to join the scumbags setting up the big picture / big 6 after a couple of years.
