It's nothing to do with being misogynistic/sexist.
In gymnastics for example, women are actually seen as superior athletes to men and Simone Biles earns more than all the male gymnasts.
Again, people aren't sexist. People just want to watch the highest standard of sports and can you actually blame people? No matter how people try to hide gender roles/stereotypes, they will always exist.
