The toxicity levels will be ridiculous best thing we can do for stability and give him tools.

Finish outside of Europe places again and their will be protests etc.

Do you think he will be successful enough to stay for the three years that would represent stability mate. I know it is hypothetical but just wondered where you are placing your bets about how he will do.

I personally believe for all the talk of trophies and success the board mainly want someone to keep us semi competitive / stable around the top half whilst BMD gets built & the squad gets overhauled/foundations set.

I think with Benitez and I thought the same with Carlo if they have us anywhere from probably 12th onwards the board wont be massively fussed.

Benitez is essentially Carlo lite - his system/style of play wont realistically have us in the top 4 but proably anywhere from 6th-12th but thats also with improvement to the squad as we need pace and power adding to this side desperately.

Throw in potentially James leaving and the club has to spend.

But I dont think fan opinion will count for much - supporters wont be rioting in GP if the clubs finishing 9th-10th even if the football is dour you'll have a few boos and grumbles but thats about it imo.

There is no way he is on £15m a year. Even if he was on that in China it’s a completely incomparable situation as they have to pay ludicrous money to entice people over there.

If Carlo was on £11m as has been widely reported then I expect Benitez will be on less than that and £15m over two years makes sense. With incentives on top based on Europe, trophies.

Round and round in circles we go with you - if he's only a stopgap, anyone would have done - why appoint such a divisive figure?

Moshiri in his interview today seemed to think ww3 erupted amongst the fanbase over Martinez, and then later then potential hiring of Moyes - I can assure you if he was left running for cover after those two episodes he will be scared witless by the reaction to the FSW after a bad run of results.

There has to be an improvement on last seasons league finish or it will be he hasn’t done anything blah blah. The home form last season was terrible, can talk about no crowds all we like tbh but all teams had the same, actually we had some fans in at one point when others didn’t. Can’t really say we should have finished in Europe’s as you finish we’re you deserve too, yes it wasn’t many points between where we finished and European football, but tbh I thought the players didn’t even look bothered they were getting beat in some games. We missed a big opportunity last season to finish with European football, the flip side to this is, is the current squad even good enough to compete in Europe playing Thursday Sunday for example.

Even £7.5m a year is obscene

Let's be honest - even with Ancelotti still in charge there can't be many who were looking forward to next season unless we brought in at least 4/5 significant players (if not more). We also needed to shift 7/8 dead weights.
I've a feeling Benitez will do that. So whilst not many of us could envisage him being appointed - I do have a glimmer of optimism that wouldn't necessarily have been there if Carlo the rat stayed. Time will tell but I support the club and anyone who represents it.

I think he will be ruthless tbh as he knows he has to do something or at least be seen to trying to do so. Bye iwobi, Delph, Gomes, Bernard, James and probably Davies

Thanks mate.
I think there might be a bit less patience towards dour footy combined with boring mid table particularly if he doesn’t have a go to win in most matches at home anyway. We will see. I am having a bit of a senior moment and can’t remember the last anti manager protest. Was it Martinez towards the end of year 3???

I’m not saying it isn’t. Just that it makes more sense than him being paid almost 50% more than what Carlo was on.

As with any of this stuff I would also take it with a massive pinch of salt as the press just throw numbers about with no real clue of what is actually happening.

Look at what happened with James when we had apparently spent £20m on him or whatever it was until Real disclosed that it was a free.

Sancho was £82m yesterday and now he’s £73m. Most of the press don’t have a clue and there is no point getting annoyed by stuff that has little to no information behind it.

Yeah it got a bit heated towards the end of Silva as well I thinl mate - the defeat at home to Norwich had some shouting at Kenwright to sack him.

I think the penny is dropping with the fans though that a handful of players aside the squad we have is very average and other clubs around us have/are recruiting better.

The sad reality is we are a 7th-11th team at present and need to start recruiting better.

Because he was the most qualified to apply for the job?

I know some think Potter taking Brighton to 16th in the table trumps a bloke having a Champions League, Europa League, La Liga Title, FA Cup & Copa Italia on their CV but not with Usmanov.
