They were under Houillier.
Bullocks. A cup double and Champions League qualification puts them up there. Valencia are a good example of below elite, but Liverpool are one of the world's most famous clubs!

Valencia don't have anywhere near the reputation of Liverpool. Neither do Napoli. Liverpool, even when Souness was working his magic, were still one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Well that was Spitty C's words. He was mainly talking about back when Benitez took over. They hadn't won a league title since 1990, and only appeared in the European Cup/CL twice in 20 years. They weren't title challengers.
I don't care what that bell thinks. When you think of the massive clubs, Liverpool are right up there. In England it would be RS and Man Utd, for Italy Juventus and AC Milan, Spain Real and Barca, etc.

Not at that time. They were the tier below the elite until Benitez arrived. @Debunkology above has explained why.

Hell, when Benitez arrived, Gerrard and Owen were in the process of jumping ship, Chelsea were poaching their talisman and they were powerless to stop it until bullets arrived in the post.

1992 until Benitez

Manchester United averaged 2nd place, 7 league titles & 1 European Cup
FC Barcelona averaged 2nd place, 5 league titles & 1 European Cup
Juventus averaged 2nd place 5 league titles & 1 European Cup
AC Milan averaged 4th place, 5 league titles & 2 European Cups
Real Madrid averaged 3rd place, 4 league titles & 3 European Cups

Liverpool averaged 5th place with zero league titles and hardly appeared in the European Cup / CL

There is no comparison.

That's a very selective way to look at it!

We are currently 8th in the League due to alphabetical order.
I would be very surprised in RaFail Beneathus will get us any higher than that when next years points are taken into consideration.
