Needs to build the team around
Pickford
Mina
Doucoure
DCL
Richy
Gray
Allan (short term)
Townsend see Allan

Like some have said we are about 7/8 1st team players away from competing

Things I think Benitez is culpable for:

* Signing Rondon
* Our abysmal set pieces
* Getting the shape wrong at the start of the game last night

Other than that, I find it hard to apportion much blame to him for anything else at the moment, given the scale of our injuries and the fact we know that this group of players have largely done the same sort of thing for years under an assortment of different managers.

I know that he'll be hated by some regardless of what happens because of who he is, but unless we are in actual relegation battle, there's no way I'm getting on the "sack the manager" bandwagon at any point, because I'm absolutely sick of changing managers every 18 months or whatever. He's here now, I don't think he's a bad manager and stability will most likely be better for us than changing manager again.

The ones who've been against him since day one and wouldn't give any credit when we were wining games have opinions which don't count for much at the moment because we know it isn't results which are their issue, whereas the ones who'll argue that Benitez can do no wrong seem equally ridiculous. The truth always lies somewhere in the middle.

Our form is appalling. He has to go immediately.

It all weirdly can be traced back to that ridiculous decision to rest players in the cup. We lost all momentum and the season has unravelled. We've barely played any good teams yet!!

You would have been screaming for a top manager like Ancelotti to go, so why are you backing this mediocre manager so strongly?

I think we'll struggle in the next five games, but once we get the full squad back and maybe add a couple of extra players in January we'll be able to start scraping enough points to be okay

At that stage we then need a massive clear out in the summer, and to be fair to Benitez I think he'll be well suited to that

It's just a case of riding through this bad patch right now

We'll be down near the relegation zone following that Arsenal game I'm sure, but I also think we'll start adding some points once the Christmas period starts and if we sign some players quickly in January whilst having luck with injuries then this is salvageable

It's going to be a mediocre season at best, but FFP and the current lack of depth ensured that from the beginning. We just need to grit our teeth and get through it

Benitez wasn't my pick and I hardly think he's tearing it up, but there are mitigating circumstances right now and it's too early to call for a sacking I think

It is though!

Potter/Brighton have won 1 in 6
Frank/Brentford have won 1 in 5

Neither have had the injury problems we've had to key players

DCL
Richarlison
Doucoure
Mina

Those 4 simply can not be replaced with our current squad and Godfrey is a shell of the player he was (COVID).

Fans just need patience and to accept what we at present - a midtable club that goes on bad runs of form.

Forget looking at the likes of Chelsea/Leicester/RS winning 5 out of 6 we aint that level nowhere near and neither will we be with a new manager.

Its not being a happy clapper its looking at the last 6-7 seasons and seeing a pattern with these players.

Yes the manager has made mistakes so far but every manager does there is no white knight / silver bullet that turns everything perfect overnight and we need to get out of the sack sack sack mentality especially when we are cash strapped FFP speaking to back a new manager adequately enough.

If you want to see positive change sack Marcel Brands / remove Kenwright and thats a start.
This, totally.

We need those players back as quickly as possible without risking them breaking down further.

We then need to buy sensibly in the transfer window where possible.

I get that some people are set against Rafael on his past jobs, or that they think he's out of date; but he's here and won't be going anywhere soon.

We just have to get through this spell. We're not going to be relegated so it's do as best we can this season then see where we are at the end of it.

It's not attractive and isn't what people on here probably want to hear, but we are in a period of consolidation after blowing hundreds of millions on rubbish. We're very lucky that we have an owner still willing to spend and is only being stopped by the regulations in place, whatever we think of them.

For those of us old enough to remember, this could easily have been a Leeds situation, so we shouldn't really get on the managers back too much, regardless of your personal feelings towards him, when he's effectively doing the job with one hand tied behind his back due to circumstances

We're level on points with Leicester whose defence isn't great either. Do they have our injury problems?
If we can show the same spirit as in second half we'll be OK.
Get the cheque book out in January.

We've been riding out a storm ever since Martinez second season. There's no excuse for that sort of defeatist mentality. Patience is for the unambitious who seek only mediocrity. It should be a banned word at Everton. There should be desperation and total commitment, not patience. It's such a losing mentality.

Where has Benitez ever overhauled a squad?

He's a short term manager who won't last 18 months. We need a squad builder with a long term approach. This is never going to work. The more people back him the worse this will get.

It's pie in the sky to think this works out well - why are people clinging on to blind hope?

No manager can’t do anything on long turn with this squad ,lads are just not good enough in any ways , as someone mentioned above Rafael issues is that he is full of himself and he will never take responsibility for anything but he will take a credit right away as we had a chance to see it already
?

Yes they have had significant injuries in defence. Fofana is out for the year and Evans only played his first match on Saturday. They also have Justin out long term, Castagne has been injured, and they are playing a young lad from the academy in Thomas.

They will finish miles above us too.

He won’t be sacked anyway, as that would be Moshiri admitting he was wrong again after just 10 games. The injured spine of our team is also saving him as it’s an excuse.

He shouldn’t be the manager, it’s that simple. Anyone else we would be more patient given the injuries (maybe) but he will get no time as 90% hate him.

Excuses excuses excuses

Has he taken one ounce of responsibility for anything since he took over? All I ever hear is self promotion and deflection. A truly woeful manager, who hasn't achieved anything in 15 years.

This is absolutely what he does. Carlo had injuries but he didn’t moan about them, it’s part of football. He won’t take any responsibility for his awful team set up. He’ll probably make the same mistake next week.

He did change it though, but he's getting zero credit for it, which is kind of my point

If that Gordon header goes in then it's 2-2 and we nick a point. At what point does the change make up for the bad start?

With football supporters the answer seems to be "never" based on how we talk on here

This isn't even a thing unique to Benitez either

All of our previous managers dealt with it as well
I think you make a fair point but to Counter point it I think we were probably poor in quite large bits of the Southampton & Burnley games but the 3 points led to talk of his genius and him being lauded by Some .

Results influence fan reaction especially when it’s a manager whose viewed like this guy is . If klopp loses but plays well the RS fanbase aren’t really bothered but we’re in a different position. Let’s be honest we didn’t play well over the piece but did ok second half , as we did in a couple of games he’d won. Once we scored I actually felt we’d nick something or even better and even with that first half abject performance there were a couple of real chances where we could Even have scored in that whole game . However we’re now 1 win 7 , lost 3 on the run with a manager deeply unloved and mostly unwanted so the reaction doesn’t feel at all surprising.

Oh great, we're back to the just be thankful we didn't do a Leeds argument. At this point you know people have given up.

Supporting this manager means you do not expect success. We will never be successful under this environment. Benitez and success are two mutually exclusive things. One will not happen with the other. Can we please show some sort of standards as a fan base?
