I don't want to stroke the collective ego of the match-going fanbase, but collectively they are not idiots and know what works and what doesn't in football terms. Specifically, they (and the rest of us) have seen this same nonsense from many of the same players for years now and we all know how it ends.

Koeman and Martinez had to go because they were persisting in trying those things that had demonstrably failed numerous times before despite both (Koeman vs City and Martinez in most of his first season) having done much better with a different way of playing. Likewise Silva had that good run towards the end of his one full season and then descended back into the nonsense that got him fired. Benitez started really well, with really effective tactics but since the injuries he has fallen back into the same 4-5-1 comfort blanket (largely because of Rondon) and it has worked as well as it usually does.

What he needs to do today is show he's changed it up, make it clear from the start he has understood what doesn't work. If he does that, performances are likely to improve and so will the reaction from the fanbase. If he doesn't, he won't last until Christmas.

The name of the manager is the least of Everton's problems. Until other parts are improved, is changing the manager going to see any significant difference? 5 or 6 managers have been seen off. Until other parts of the club improve, it will soon be 7 8 9 10 managers and it still won't matter.

Rafael didn't bring any problems to Everton that we didnt allready have, its a strange sitation but right now our manager isnt really a big issue, too many fundamental parts of the club behind him dont work and have been broken since Moshiri came
 
His tactics over the last 3 weeks have been questionable (that's being kind). The part that I can't get my head around is if the DoF and Owner sack him, surely they are acknowledging their failure in recruiting the wrong man.

I know that's the case at most clubs, but most clubs haven't made their way through 5+ managers in as many years. Brands in particular must be thinking, if we sack him its a nail in the coffin. Its a conflict of interest.

That for me is why brands needs to go ahead of any other backroom member of staff.

Brands is Moshiri’s cover. Kenwright as well. Useful, in that sense.

TBF I'd rather Moshiri sits down and works out what a DoF is meant to actually do before sacking Brands, otherwise we could see a lot of effort and money wasted (both up to now and in the future). We've after all signed someone with a proven track record of doing one thing and then had him do something else entirely.

As a club we are never going to outspend the Sky clubs (and 19th) but having a structure set up and ran by a DoF whereby players are repeatedly found, developed and then sold on for profit to the idiot clubs would really work for us financially and in sporting terms. We've not done that so far because of all the managerial change, with all of them (until Benitez) being given fortunes to spend on their favourite expensive players which then block the path of and remove the incentive for development of cheaper, better players.

Personally, I hope what we saw this summer continues in January and next year - ie: binning off of expensive flops, recruitment of players with something to prove and the talent to do it.
