Why? It's completely true.

Dictionary definition of misplaced ire.

From the very start, there's been a notable section of support who have been desperate to jump on Benitez and were outright disappointed Everton were winning games early on. It's just a sad fact. I get it, I'm not foolish enough to have not expected it, but it's incredibly childish.

There is a large portion of the support who refuse to allow the slightest bit of criticism to fall on the shoulders of a manager who has 1 win in 9, and 2 points from 18.

This division was inevitable with the appointment. People feel humiliated watching their own team. People are acting like they are of higher moral standing by supporting this failing manager, but it's a ridiculous position to take and one that will look really silly.

He could have rejected the offer

He's not blameless no

He could have taken the job and then made a genuine effort to smooth things over with the fan base ahead of the season, but he instead decided to double down on his previous comments

The fact remains though that this is a human being we're talking about and the reaction he's going to get will not be proportional to his actions, which is something I can be sympathetic to, especially as there's far more going on at this club that needs fixing than the manager

It isn't; it's in response to those already being irrational.

Did you see yesterday? It didn't need davek to post anything for them to be 'riled up' - it was a shocker on here. It was like Moshiri/Brands/the players didn't exist.

And how does digging all back up again the day after help with the general quality of discourse exactly?

At some point one of these factions needs to draw a line under this

We get the forum we deserve at the end of the day

I thought he was a pig?

….there was also a notable section of fans idolising Benitez after winning games early on. It worked both ways but I never buy into the theory that any Evertonian was ‘disappointed’ when the team won.

Benitez isn’t bigger than Everton, Evertonians are desperate for Everton to win football matches regardless of what they think of this manager. To think otherwise promotes the importance of Benitez and he’ll never be as important as Everton.

And this is the problem

EVERY manager thread since Martinez has been a case of two extremes battling with one another, regurgitating the same points over and over and over and over again

You, I, and many others have had enough of the faction wars when it comes to this manager now thank you very much

Both sides are just as guilty as the other as far as I'm concerned and they both need to grow up so that we can actually have something bordering a sensible conversation around the manager. It's just boring at this stage

People forget that Carlo lost 5-0 to this lot last season with nothing to play for both sides and we had a much stronger lineup that day.
I think most people realize that it doesn't matter what happened in the past.

We really need to stop the correlation between the two managers as it is irrelevant.

Both extremes are wrong when it comes to this

They were not, all people said was he should be given a chance. You may have got one WUM at most going over the top, but generally people were simply saying wait and see.

That isn't 'idolising'. If Benitez gets sacked for poor performance I personally couldn't give a toss, but if he gets sacked because a bunch of fools can't wrap their head around he had a different job once upon a time then I do give a toss.

Getting beat away to the champions of England with our first team in tatters with injuries and it provoked threads from the usual suspects about relgation and the absolute necessity to get rid of a manager of 4 months standing...even though we lie mid-table.

If ever it needed underlining how far some on here will go to install some 'kin cone layer or worse than him just so they can satisfy their urge to punish "the fat Kopite" interloper, that was it.

An utterly dreadful series of posts the likes of which I hope we never see again.

Both extremes are wrong when it comes to this

There needs to be much more calm and reason to the debate, but I wouldn't say it's extreme to say a manager with 1 win in 9 should be under pressure. Teams who are below us in the table have already replaced their manager after form like that.

If anything, we are always the club who wait far too long before acting. It's not an extreme poisition to think the manager should be under pressure. The extreme position is to suggest that this run of form is fine and that staying up is the target.
