And what does that have to do with our defending?

I can't remember Lukaku being blamed when we shipped goals under Martinez. It's ridiculous just how low the bar is getting here.

Defending starts from the top - if you have no outball or attacking threat you can't get out and teams can push on with more impunity as there's no threat in behind.

It's a large part of what makes Richarlison so valuable, because he pins opponents back, but he can't do it alone - I didn't watch yesterday but once Gray went off yesterday for Iwobi I'm assuming we basically didn't get near the penalty box and City just penned us in. There's a reason for that and it's not just the back four or five.

Except maybe their coaching skills of which Fatty has shown very little to nothing.
The team are going backwards with each and every game.
The players are getting individually and collectively worse as each game passes.

A pundit on Hawksbee and Jacobs summed it up perfectly this afternoon :

" Watching Everton this season is like watching a team playing football in 2005 and unfortunately for Everton, football has moved on a lot since then "

Just watch the players coming out for 'training' at Finch Farm.

Not one of them looks arsed!
They've probably been reading GOT and are comfortable with the knowledge that some of our "fans" don't expect better than lower mid-table and don't even have any hopes of us beating Brentford or keeping a clean sheet while our striker is out.

No tubes, this is ridiculous.

I'm not having the fact we can't keep a clean sheet being blamed on the fact that our first choice striker is out. I can't take this seriously.

I've edited my post a bit.

Benitez, IMO, has implemented the style he wants already. It works a bit better with our better players but still hardly 100% convincing. It's not an exciting way of playing (fine), and in all honesty I don't see it being that effective in the long run either.

I'm not saying Benitez is uniquely bad. I just don't think he's very good, at all.

He's playing with the current style as we're so limited in what we can do. We don't have technically gifted players to play possession football and slice teams open. We don't have a defence that would allow the midfield to push further forward. We don't have a team with bags of energy and fight to close the opposition down in a high line.

Start of season with full squad to pick from he had us playing front foot football, with Gray, Doucoure and Calvert-Lewin looking fantastic.

Injuries set in, the usual cowards downed tools and we are where we are.

You have no evidence whatsoever for what you're saying; he is simply playing the hand he's dealt with. He can't go gegenpressing with the shower of tossers he has at his disposal.

Did you watch us?

We were not on the front foot on any of those games. We sat back, conceded possession, and we countered effectively.

I would hardly say we were in control of any of those matches but we did win them so that was all that mattered.

We didn't play any strong opposition with DCL in the team, so I would need to see us against a good team with him up front.

We didn't control the first 3 matches either. The first half against Southampton was dreadful for example.

The manager chooses to play those players, though?

Every manager we've had seems to love Keane. The club want Keane to stay over Mina, which is laughable.

Benitez didn't have to bring Iwobi on yesterday when Gray went off, but he did. And didn't change the system even though it suddenly was totally different because Iwobi, shock horror, cannot do the job Gray can.

If you don't see how hamstrung we are by the current crop of players (fit or not) available to the manager then there's no hope.

Yeah, I'm sure that's how new managers are judged everywhere - by having 4 months with another series of managers midden of a team and getting it spot on.

You have never ever given any Everton manager - other than that sloppy gobbed Italian fraud Ancelotti - your support.

This is just another name for you to try and undermine.

How about being constructive for once?
Oh I’m sorry, so he doesn’t coach or manage them or set tactics for the game

Sound then.

Why’s he here if he does none of the above?

His TACTICS included sitting off City, HIS tactics couldn’t see Watford tearing through our midfield.

Dinosaur and a charlatan

Lol.

The more you struggle the more you get caught on the razor wire of your own twisted logic.
