I think both RB and Gray have spoken about the contact they made with each other while RB was in China , before and after as well.
I think it is safe to say the signings in the summer were down to RB rather than Brands.
Gray also spoke about the influence of Brands when he signed. They could both have been interested in him independently from each other. They both could have been key factors in him coming.

Love him or loathe him..personally I think he is the right man for the job right now..not the best manager but has Zero loyalty to underperforming staff..from players to boardroom. The whole club needs a seismic shift away from the outdated way it’s been run..
getting in big names, next big/hipster manager or chucking money at a problem isn’t working..also I think a young manager wouldn’t work until a lot of other things are in place as it’s a massive job and with no experience at bashing heads at board level and exposing amateurish execs it would destroy an up and coming coach.

so for now benitez can clear out the rubbish and freeloaders..help restructure whilst keeping us in the league then hand over to coach that can take our play to the next level

^^^This.

We can’t judge Benitez on one signing either - and let’s face it’s the only signing of his (if he did make it) that can be considered successful since he joined

The rest range from average (Townsend), poor (Begovic) to the unspeakable (Rondon)

Throw Longstaff into the mix and his transfers are nothing short of a total shambles

Sean Longstaff whilst playing under Rafael was wanted by Man Utd. They offered 25 mil for him. Newcastle wanted 50 mil.

If we can get him for 5 to 10 mil. It will be a good deal.

If he isn't good enough for a poor Newcastle team then why would he be good enough for us. Is he not available for free next summer, so why would we bid anyway?

He didn't talk about the "influence" of Brands. He said he spoke to Rafael and Brands. That could simply be Rafael telling Brands to sign Gray for him.

Carragher said the other night that he's certain that Gray was Rafas signing.

Various reports suggest that Rafael bypassed Brands in the summer.

If we wanted him in January we would have to pay.
And why would we want him? He's poor.

You think we had problems when Brands was in charge of transfers ?

The waiter will turn in Steve Walsh levels of bad, hamstring us with a load of nonsense on high wages and long contracts.

Rondon and Longstaff are just the opening salvoes of a transfer reign of terror.

The problem is, if he manages to move Digne on in January, I can see our owner letting him spend the money. Perez and Clarke incoming. I don’t mention Longstaff, because, I think it’s a foregone conclusion that the Geordie Tom Davies is coming in. Howay the toon.

Why would he bring in Clarke, he signed him for the championship and then dropped him. Lascelles, Schar and Fernandes were his defenders for the most part.
