Well since he's been booted the athletic/local press have claimed all these names of players and manager "types" that he wanted to bring to the club for years even when he had chance too.

We were never in for Livaramento - the only names we had interest in at RB were Dumfries then later that Rangers kid and Maitland-Niles.

If Brands isnt the one leaking stuff then the Athletic reporters are being very naughty in making up lies.

There's no rhyme or reason to the recruitment and Brands does have to take his share of that. It seems his RB targets were all over the shop. Perhaps Dumfries was first choice and then TL, Patterson were the second group? From what I was told, Benitez didn't want to bid any more for Patterson (which is fine) and didn't want AMN on a permanent, only a loan.

Btw, the Athletic article itself details how the main concern was Dumfries' defensive ability for the outlay. However, £12m is a tiny fee comparatively. It's just that £12m for Everton was a big stretch at the time.

Agree mate although we did do that with Gray which was a Benitez signing.

Brands hasn't signed one of those types of players - the cheapest senior squad signing he made was kin Fabian Delph for £8.5 million.

if anybody was in any doubt as to whether Benitez should have booted this guy surely this is final proof. How he got to such a senior position in elite sport is boggling.
