Benitez to wipe the slate clean, then a new manager to come in when he actually has a chance of succeeding. As long as the players are here, the performance level won’t change much regardless of who the manager is. So we could make a short term change, spend a lot of money doing so, and start a rebuilding cycle all over again with another manager who we’ll all hate within 12 months when he loses loads of games (which he will with these players), or we can continue to go through the pain with a manager everyone already hates, let him get some of these clowns out of the club, then give a new manager a decent chance to actually succeed.
This is what justifies having him as manager now? He’s some sort of hired gun come in to clear the town of the ne’er do well gang? Funny I don’t remember that being mentioned when he was appointed. I don’t recall any pundits explaining that was why Moshiri chose him.

It’s notable that no where in your post do you offer any praise of Benitez as a manager who can get us results. Instead you paint a portrait of a corporate apparatchik who is only preparing the ground for the real mystery manager to come in.

It’s also strange you seem to feel only Benitez can identify the “clowns” and get rid of them. Why can’t anyone else do this?

It all seems to me to be a case of grasping at straws in a desperate attempt to provide justification for what has been an all around failure of an appointment.

Like Levy with Nuno, Moshiri has made a massive error here, but unlike Levy he’s not man enough to admit it.

…and so things continue to spiral downwards

Funnily enough, what we need is a DoF, and we just sacked him. Everything Brands said he would do, but wasn’t allowed to is what we need. Buy young and cheap not players at or past their best. Have a playing ethos and buy players to fit that rather than managers flip flopping our style and leading to a mishmash of a squad like we have right now. It’s scary.
Changed that slightly for you! Brands had his well documented faults - but on the other hand why employ a Director of Football if you are not going to allow him to do the job of directing the football! Interference from a succession of managers and an owner who is only getting a pass at the moment because of BMD, but has clearly shown he knows the sum of naff all about the footballing side, didn’t help Brands/ or any DoF you’d appoint in any way shape or form!

He chose the one that would pay his wages ?

Would you be forced out of your job and take a pay cut at the same time? No me neither.
Hang on, you said the reason he was there was...."Good point. You only go to the retirement homes of football when you can't do it to a high enough standard anymore."
