The world is your oyster.
It all depends on personal preference.
Firstly the profile of an Everton manager i would favour is one prefers his team to play on the front foot , to attempt to dominate and control games , but who is willing to be somewhat pragmatic during the evolution of the team rather than rush the job . I am willing to be patient for such a coach.
I would like to see to see an Everton team that is brave , bold and skilful. A team I am proud to support because it aspires to play good football.
A team that inspires hope of success rather than just survival.
After all that my personal choice for manager would be Marcelo Gallardo, but others will have other equally optimistic options no doubt.
Could be a description of Howard Kendall that.

Yes I get what you are saying.. thing is.. what happens if the DOF brings in a player or players you don’t rate or fit in with how you want your team to play.. don’t forget if it doesn’t work it’s your head on the chopping block not the DOF.. you get sacked not him..

In clubs where it works (ergo also clubs who are generally successful) those risks are well known by a coach from the outset, and it is his remit to get the best out of the players.

There will be a way of playing, and if you cant maximise that, then yes you will leave. You need to match a coach to the wider vision of the club. So its joined up.

We have had 4 or 5 managers who want to play completely differently and have allowed each of them to dictate, and wonder why we are in a mess.

I know there are some who dislike him and will never accept him. I genuinely think he can make Everton competitive given time. He is 99.99% guaranteed to stay this season. His summer transfers and next season will be a defining one for him in terms of whether he is accepted by the majority of the fanbase.

But isn’t that the thing about football.. everybody sees it in different ways so how can you join it all up... yes you can join up players like Ronaldo.. Messi and Lewandowski etc.. but when you move further down the chain to where Clubs like Everton operate those players qualities are more subjective in that some will rate him and some won’t..
maybe I just think this DOF thing is just a modern made up fad.. I don’t know many people who would be happy having there job hanging on another person’s opinion and they would much rather have there destiny in there own hands..
If I can remember right.. Roberto Martinez turned down the Liverpool job because they wanted him to work under a D.O.F.

I've red mates it's true. It was all over twitter also.

13 year old Chelsea and United fans got #KloppOut trending on Twitter? Cool.

Their fans have never ever been Klopp Out, they fell for his cult of personality from day 1. He’s absolutely perfect for them, you couldn’t invent a more suited manager in your head. On top of that they’ve done nothing but improve pretty much since the day he walked in, every season they’ve taken steps forward.

Sad thing is we have maybe 1-3 players who could adopt that way at present. So in all honesty we’d get relegated trying to play that way. It would take possibly 4-5 years to get anywhere near that ideal, assuming we manage to find a manager with the wherewithal to be able to do that.

I think the money he has spent has been the biggest part of the success rather than the managers ability..

I think for a club like us it makes it even more important to use one though mate. We cant go and sign the best players, so we need to think strategically and over a longer term.

In honesty, we have had DOF but never adopted the model.

It needs a lot more detail, but honestly the club should have a DOF who's job it is to spot cheap players, who can be trained and polished and sold on. We should target, big, powerful, quick players who are under 25, often from unfancied leagues/clubs.

You're then up front with any coach to say- this is the plan. If you want to work here, you get on board with it. We want to play front foot football and press the opponents.

I don't think as a club we can keep giving 60 something managers full autonomy to keep changing the squad around. It hasnt worked, and I cant see it working moving forward.

And maybe people would turn it down. They wouldnt be the right people for the club anyway. If you cant work to a wider plan, you're not the right fit.

OK mate. By that logic then it must be a load of 13 year old Everton fans that want Benitez out on twitter too. Happy Christmas, have a good one.

Given that I wouldn't give the vast majority of the squad houseroom I am not blaming Benitez. I don't know quite what tactics you are supposed to employ with an average of 2 to 3 fairly useless players on the pitch every game (do the maths - our "so called" best 11 to 14 players (starters/three subs) only account for around 8 starts per game (average) - there's no DCL and Richo has missed 7 games. Our best team includes raw talent like Gordon. It certainly doesn't include Rondon, Holgate and Iwobi and the depth definitely doesn't cater for half fit (Delph, Gbamin, Mina) and off the pace (Gomes) and largely done for (Seamus). Not forgetting the permanently walking wounded (Tosun) and inexperienced. The blame lies firmly with the board.

And that's before we even think about GS and Digne.

Absolutely and that is the timeframe within which I expected to see improvement when this ,now failing , owner arrived.
I fully accept that if we were to head in that direction it would not bring overnight success.
As far as I’m concerned what we have now is a dead end manager coaching dead end football towards a dead end future.
It’s the lack of hope that is grinding me down ,frankly.
