Sorry but how’s that acceptable long term? To spell it out in that way is depressing. Yeah I know it’s all we’ve known, forever now it seems, however it shouldn’t be something that we just settle for which is what is implied here. I struggle to understand how a staunch critic of the failures of Everton has chosen to hang his coat on the Benitez hatstand.

The same squad of players (and by adding Gray and Townsend we're stronger so we're told ) who finished 10th and only 6pts of a Europa League place yet we're supposed to be happy with being functional enough to get us safe each season.

It's acceptable to me in the context of the utter shambles of massive spending and low on-feild yield. It's acceptable to the owner given we are looking to move into a new stadium safely ensconced in the PL in 3 years time.

Well yes this is where we are. Just wish we didn’t have to endure this divisive appointment and pure turgid football until we get there.

There's a price to pay.

There's limited cash available and we need to rely on cheaper new players and some intelligent recycling of money received on players sold for our higher cost purchases.

We need a big dollop of discipline above all else. Players playing for their team-mates and for the fans are the foundation for it. Something Benitez has stressed from day one.

It's a baptism of fire.

All the nastiness has been front loaded: terrible injuries; zero spending; player unrest; fan protest....but we're better for it.
I’m sorry, but I’m with you Dave. He is smelling salts for this club. Many hate him, but the actions seem well considered and necessary. When we finally wake up from the mediocrity of the last few years and remember what it takes to get success, we should be stronger.,

It needs someone to break eggs and completely the shake things up. Everything about the club is rotten and needs renewal. He may not get success himself, but he is shining a light into the dark and far too comfortable corners of this club.

We’re at the bottom, things can only get better.

It’s a results game at the end of the day and we are entering into a string of fixtures where we need to win, definitely not lose, given the opposition. I expect us to box off any lingering fears of being sucked into a relegation scrap so I guess we’ll see if he can do what’s needed. The injury excuse will soon be wearing very thin.

Remember what it takes? We haven't had any success in the modern game so how are we meant to remember what we haven't had?

By hiring a dinosaur of a manager whose tactics havent changed in 20 years?

We weren't at the bottom 6 months ago when we finished 10th on 59 points. The only difference is the manager.

With players coming in and getting back from injuries with morw options to choose from. He can get the club more positive results. Wont be able to use the excuse about injuries when players back

Does anyone believe we’re stronger because we’ve added Andros Townsend, released by Palace on a free?

I think he is in total.

He's arrested a decline caused by severe injuries; he's laid down the law to ill-disciplined players and shown them who's boss; and he's working his way nicely through the bureacrats that have clogged up clear football strategy (Brands, scouts, physios).

I'd take that over a team that's 3 points better off and top half but saddled with the same safe culture of mediocrity.
Worst run since before half the forum were born. There were NO severe injuries, it's just you and the FSW thinks that.

He absolutely is not doing a good job. 5 points in the last possible 30. Worse record than Allardyce, Koeman, Silva and Martinez.

He didn't sack Brands, he was a sacrificial lamb. Managers always bring their own backroom staff in.

So... Enlighten me. How is he doing a "good job"?

Personally I feel we are weaker. But that is down to benitez as he sanctioned james and Bernard leaving despite the lack of squad depth. (And james after it was too late to bring anyone else in)

If you listen to the benitez fans, then logically we must surely be stronger because James was supposedly crap and Bernard did nothing.

Nkounkou and Kean weren't here last season either so neither here nor there.

The only other real departures were king (who may as well not have been here last season) and Walcott, who other than squad depth isn't a real miss.

So logically, this squad that finished 10th with 59 points laat season should surely finish higher with more points right? Aw we got rid of the crap waster in james, and brought in gray and townsend so we are better.

King is twice the player of Rondon and couldn't get a sniff.
