He is a good player and if we put out eleven with his work ethic every week we would not go far wrong.

Not saying I know you're wrong, but when I heard about the apparent u-turn on Weir I immediately felt it was an appointment foisted on Benitez (who has just got rid of an unwanted layer of bureacracy) by someone like Kenwright and Benitez lost no time in torpedoing it.

I stand to be corrected. But I cant imagine Benitez to want any ex-player in with connections to Moyes or that he'd have made such a cack handed attempt at bringing him in.

It sounds like the unprofessionalism of his internal enemies at the club.

That was my reading as well. Brands/Kenwright had lined it up, Benitez heard of another job for the boys and torpedoed it. Media probably spun it into the story it was

Like you, Davec, I have no real knowledge of who is pulling the strings over this David Weir affair, but I have heard, second hand, that Weir, if he comes, will be a Benitez appointment.

Spurs have cash to spend and a new stadium to attract a new manager of quality, and they had a much better squad than the one Benitez inherited.

There is no comparison to be made.
