On Benitez, I don’t think I’ll ever truly come round to him. He just doesn’t feel Everton. Not sure I’ll ever shake that.

That said, though I didn’t watch the game as I was out, the style of football from the extended highlights (at least going forward) is something that a goodison crowd will respond to. Get stuck in, direct, lots of wing play and crosses. The third goal in particular was very Steven/Gray.

More results like that and he might give himself a bit more room to manoeuvre.

Good showing in the second half following a wretched showing in the first. I'm chuffed with the result but it's going to take a lot more than a 3-1 win at home against Southampton to get me heaping praise on either the manager or the players. Positive start, now let's see if we can build on it. UTFT!

I'm not sure the first half was that awful. Apart from the brain fart, the only thing he got wrong was the centre back pairing and Gray and Richarlison the wrong way around - and he should have expected better from the centre backs.

But the second half was all I could expect from the players we have after Benitez sorted out the issues from the first half.

One in the credit bank for Benitez. If he can make it more second half than first half over the next half dozen games, he's made the perfect start to turning my opinion around in him.

At the moment, I'm more concerned about the incomings and outgoings.

I guess the anti Rafael Fat fat fat pig pig pig brigade on here had a bad day yesterday. I was too sick to go to the match but I believe he was given a great reception by the match going fans.

There were boos and you could hear them and I wouldn't say he was given a 'great reception' for a new manager but he was roundly applauded. I neither booed or applauded though.

I didn't expect anything else regarding the reception goodison as far as I've watched Everton we have never hounded a manager out Martinez after 3 years was probably the worst I've ever known

Watched the second half again this morning - at 1-1 Soton were well in this and could have gone ahead as they had us pinned back.

the goals make it seem more comfortable than it was.

Again though that’s sort of football in a nutshell isn’t it ? You could just as easily argue their only Goal came from a ridiculous error. In reality we won and it worked out for us and by extension the decisions the manager took , it is clear he’ll get harder tests .

Good turn around yesterday. Very pleased. Leeds away will be a different animal(don't be fooled by their trouncing at old trafford, we were too) and if we can get a result there I'll be feeling very positive about the season and Rafael

Much rathered watching Fulham and Sheffield Utd play us off the park under Ancelotti with no chance of us scoring a goal unless we got a set piece.
