He took them there.
He joined them in March and went on a five game un beaten streak.

Quoting Newcastle relegation is pointless.

If you quoted our disastrous defence this season, then that is a different matter.

You need to hold hi to account for the stuff that is his fault or you negate your own argument.

I hope that is the case. I just want us to be successful but I am a realist and from the nightmare of the last few years of acquiring dross it's not going to be a quick fix and it's going to take at least a couple of seasons whoever is in charge. To get Top 7 with this crop you would have to be a miracle worker.
I don't really think people are expecting top seven, they just want a bit of hope and don't see that coming with a reviled person in charge of the club who's best years are way behind him.

I remember when he first arrived and there was a bunch of people who were never going to accept him and the majority were willing to wait and see, that has flipped lately and its not just because he is ex RS (it's part of it) our results and performances have been shocking, any manager would be feeling the pinch right now after this run of results and rightly so, his past and the fact he doesn't help himself at all just makes it worse.

There are some positives, he has made some decent signings (though realistically only Gray is a standout at this point as the two full backs its way too early to tell and Townsend is doing exactly what I thought he would, flashes of brilliance and a good solid pro.). Even Mike Walker made good signings though (Limpar, Parkinson, Ferguson, Amokachi to an extent) it takes more than that.

I wanted him to succeed personally, I too am a realist, and because of that I realized right from the beginning that he was never going to succeed as he was doomed from the start. A truly ridiculous appointment, it's proper mad when you step back and look at it.

They were 1 point off safety with a game in hand when he took over.

Obviously he cannot totally be blamed for going down but they more than stood a chance.

@davek is just a contrarian/wum, most on here know that. I just like getting him on something and watch him try wriggle his way out of it.
The real problem are the posters who genuinely think Benitez is doing a good job and defend him to the hilt.
@Saint Domingo @ForeverBlue92 @4737carlin sorry if I've forgotten anyone.
No, my stance has always been the same, at the time we went for him we were in such a mess we couldnt of got a better manager, not when any potential appointment seen our squad and budget, if we could of got a better manager then, why hasnt a single anti Rafael poster has been able to explein why we didnt in the summer.?
As for the job he is doing now, im as down about the league place as everyone but replacing him is not the answer when we are in a place were we wont be able to attract anyone mid season. He currently is still the best man for the job, we have zero chance of getting a top name in right now.
The players are clearly playing for him, they dont give up, we have seen many Everton teams in recent years fold after 20 mins with zero effort to fight back, noobdy can say that about the team under Rafael, ok might be a plan to not go behind from the start but at least the player still put a full shift in, something we couldnt say last season.

The work he has done off the pitch is good, i mean the players he has got in and seeing off Brands and a few medical losers.

He is here as a result of the mess Moshiri has made post David Moyes, so its not really his fault anyway, we have been going backwards for 6 years

Besides i have called out things i dont like he has done, his line up against QPR for a start, playing Coleman left back for example, and my eyes bleed as much as anyones watchin Rondon

Only time will tell, he deserves the full season before he is truly judged. To judge him on half a season is premature.

True fans get behind the team they dont go to a game to play up to the BBC and hope they get their forlorn and minorty viewpoint on screens up and down the country.

Is that where we are now?

Not for me.

And that, by the way, is why that 27 minute lot got short shrift against Arsenal.

They were about 4-strong and spoke for themselves.

If you ever bothered your arse to actually go to a match to watch they team you supposedly support you would know that the dissent is getting louder by the week.

Realistically he doesn't deserve to be here at all.

It doesn't really matter if his judgement is premature. Football is an emotional game where rivalries matter. Calling for calmer heads, whilst a noble request, doesn't really work in the world of football.

His cards are already marked, they have been since the beginning.

We'll see what Benitez offers when he isn't using the dogs breakfast of tat that other manager's left.

Be patient.

Tat ???? Dave. Rondon, Gray, Townsend, Patterson, Mykolenko, others Pickford, DCL Richarlison, Godfrey, Branthwaite, Gordon, Simms, Dobbin, Keane, no doubt you can add more names to this tat list, that FSW is struggling with.
