Fair points mate but had we sacked Moyes early doors we wouldn't have had the years that followed of regular European Football - WHU let him go the first time around to go for Pellegrini when they should have kept him in hindsight.

We cant keep going around in circles sacking managers everytime we dont finish in Europe its cost us too much surely the summer FFP problems show that?

New manager wants his own players, the ex manager needs paying off to the tune of millions.

You sack Benitez who is available who would honestly do a better job with these players?

We need patience and to give this fella time to build something - some on here would have hounded Kendall out in the 80's had he not finished 8th.

That's fair, but if you'd asked me at the start of last season what I thought a minimum acceptable finish was, I'd have said about 8th. For me, we finished below what was acceptable but I would have been prepared to give the manager another couple of years (I suspect my faith might have been misplaced there as it was really only based on who he is, rather than any real evidence of improvement).

I also want a manager here for a good 3 seasons or more. I would be fine if Benitez was that manager, but you've got to show something for that. There has to be a trade off with how much the appointment has divided people. For me, 10th last season was an underperformance but I'd accept 10th again as a minimum acceptable performance and give Benitez another season. That's my limit though. It would mean we were standing still, but the FFP stuff we've had to contend with would be enough to see past that. Falling below that level, with a fractionally better squad than we had last season, just wouldn't cut it for me.

I suspect this debate will be totally meaningless as I have faith he'll get us to 8th or above, but the only way I could conceivably see myself giving Benitez longer if he finished in the bottom half would be if there were some massive extenuating circumstances (e.g. We had a horrendous injury crisis this season where DCL, Richarlison and Digne were all out for several months).

The appointment of Benitez was, on paper, the best appointment we could have made. There wasn't a better manager we could have realistically attracted at the time we brought him in. The flip side of this though is that he is who he is - some people were happy he came, a large majority wouldn't have chosen him, but will be ok with it if he does well, another group weren't happy and largely will never be happy because of who he is. That group in the middle is the important one - if he goes backwards, because of who he is he has less leeway than anyone else before him. It might not be fair, it just is what it is. It's really important that he doesn't finish below what Ancelotti did. I don't want next summer to be another one where we are looking for a new boss, we need some stability but Benitez has to deliver enough this season that he gives himself the platform to continue.

Football is up and down - Leicester have finished 5th twice and likely will finish below that this season the way they have started - does Rodgers get sacked on that basis as he'll have "taken them backwards" on the previous 2 seasons?

Im all for sacking the manager if come 3 seasons time he hasn't had us in Europe but we are currently sat in 4th with some fans already talking about imaginary scenarios come the seasons end as a stick to beat him with.

For me he gets 2 seasons at the minimum whilst this gutless squad gets a rebuild. Anyone thinking we'll replace him with Conte and win the league is deluded likewise anyone thinking we'll replace him with a Potter or Howe and finish top 4 is deluded.

Back the manager he knows what he is doing!

Rodgers has earned himself the time to continue. Nobody at Leicester would consider getting rid of him if they finished 8th or 9th or whatever this season.

Benitez hasn't earned that sort of leeway here.

I'll absolutely buy into the fact that he seems to know what he's doing - the early evidence is more promising than anyone we've had for years. There seems to be an actual plan, an identity and an understanding of what keeps the crowd happy at Everton. Sound. But he's Rafael Benitez - the crowd will not accept what they perceive as going backwards. Moshiri won't either, for that matter. Speak to any of the local journos and they'll tell you that Ancelotti's job was actually in question after the season finished. If he'd consider binning his Hollywood manager, he'll certainly consider getting shut of Benitez.

As I said though, this is all probably pointless, I'm 90% certain we won't have to worry about sacking anyone for a little while

When you factor in we could only spend £1.5m this summer mate sacking + paying Ancelotti off to the tune of over £25 million was never happening.

People dont want to accept it but the board want stability whilst BMD is built.

Mid table security with the odd fight for Europe and its job safe for Benitez. I think he'll have us better than that and have us top half comfortably but even if we finished say 11th I think those expecting him to be given the bullet in his first 2 years will be in for dissapointment.

I think he'll do here what Moyes did IF given time and resources.

I’m sorry but I really like him.

I wouldn't say I really like him, but I like what he says. He's not blowing smoke up their asses, tells it how it is and if he was a fully paid up member of the kopites he wouldn't have tarnished that by joining us.

He likes Liverpool and Liverpudlians and we just have to see how he gets on. We are going to face harder times and let's hope he can get results so we don't lose and then the confidence goes, performances drop off and you lose several on the trot.

You can’t help yourself but lie.

It's not even up for debate. Barring relegation, they won't sack him.
That would take us to 8 managers in 6 years...., caretakers included. Makes Everton a real attractive proposition for other talented managers.....

He was been given 1.5m, our position this season should be similar to last in theory but who here actually thinks it will be?
