I've shared this quote a few times now, but I think it's very useful insight into Benitez from Steven Gerrard;

Does anyone think this particular group of players will react in the right way to this type of manager?

If no, is the manager the problem, or the players?

This was my opinion from May last year - click and read the thread;

October;

I'm still of the same view.

The core of the squad is rotten and has been for some time.

Factor in they've just gone from cuddly Carlo who is renowned for his softly softly approach to the above...

The squad is unlikeable and the manager is completely the wrong fit.

Both can be true.

An overhaul cannot be carried out by a manager who is extremely unpopular and has zero credibility due to abysmal results.

Indeed.

I've shared the same view.

But, we're in no position to 'overhaul' now.

Hence needing to shift players and look for interim - El Ghazi type solutions.

I mean, if the players are so touchy / difficult / likely to play up and you throw a hardline manager in you'll get disfunction.

The answer is pushing the players out of the door and managing the situation- which probably means treating water at best due to the fat contracts and difficulties selling. The big danger here is a more caustic approach takes us down.

Hence why my arse is going this season.

The trend isn't promising on that front, unfortunately.

He should be, but he wont be. Moshiri is all-in until we're in the bottom 3. So long as his investment has a bit of a buffer between the drop, he wont rock the boat.
Problem is, there is a world of difference between being in the bottom 3 in October/ November time to being there in Feb/ March. If we are in the bottom 3 in Feb, the board room panic will be something to behold.

Providing you're not a blue.

This job needed someone with balls of steel who doesn't give a flying what people think of him.
He was probably the only one of that ilk we could find.

We didn't need a Potter or Arteta to carry on the same crap. It needed sorting once and for all.

If people are happy finishing 8th - 12th every season then crack on with the hatred.

Me personally am willing to give him time to see what he can do.

This season was always a write-off and I think you will find the majority of fans accepted that at the beginning of the season if they could see something happening. Granted not a lot happened up to now but with half a season to go I am expecting an upturn.
Yeah

We'll be "sorted once amd for all" when we are playing Stoke & QPR in the Championship.

That'll teach them.

Nah, they'll just give it to Dunc, hope he gives a few rousing Braveheart speeches pre-match and see if we can nab a couple of wins from somewhere with blood n thunder. It's the only plan our board are likely to come up with between now and springtime.
