Because there is a big chasm of grey area between "elite manager" and "past it dinosaur"

Mourinho is in that grey area now having once been an elite manager - he's isn't getting the Man City / Chelsea / PSG job anytime soon but he's still miles better than some of the bums our fans crave like Lampard and Big Dunc.
Great shout, let's sack a manager who plays extremely negative football, falls out with players and blames everyone other than himself and hire a manager who plays extremely negative football, falls out with players and blames everyone other than himself.

None of that explains why Mourinho will take this job but an up and coming manager wouldn't.

Try again.

I don't get all these relegation shouts.

Before the injuries hit we were 4 wins from 5 games and 1 loss in 9 at the beginning of the season.

Surely once all are fit again we should be looking at similar stats.
Tell that to Martinez, Koeman and Silva who all had great starts to their Everton careers. I was thinking similar as you til I watched Brighton and Hull. We shouldn't be that bad against Brighton with only Richy and Mina missing. We made them look like Barce. For Hull we were missing Dom, Mina and Richy but our issues were at the back again. Conceding for fun. I think Norwich could get a result against us too based on those two matches. T

And what if (as per almost every team) you don’t have another week where every one of your best 11 is fit?

Whatever side of the fence you sit, be it 'Rafasaurus for the chewing up and spitting out of our club' or 'dinosaurs are a thing of the past', there is no escaping the fact that we have sold one of our better players to a rival club and taken one of their reserves in.

Those who say it's the lowest they've felt as an Evertonian are either quite young or have shortish memories. We went years without signing a decent player in the nineties. We had a Kopite owner who ran the club into the ground. We've been 1 game away from relegation twice. I confess I expected better when Moshiri came, but I think it would be a stretch to say it's the lowest I've felt. I'm apathetic at the moment, although that might be an age thing! If I was 25 I'd probably feel low.
I thinks its more to do with expectation lvels being raised, We wanted a Billionaire, we wanted to free spend, we wanted a quality manager we wnated a new ground

and here we are staring down the barrel of double barrell!

Ive been through it with many, decades of hope and aspiration, some huge highs, Peter Johnson was a huge low but its this new level of hope we had with Mosh et al and its just not materialised!

Genuine on the up managers im talking about will get better wages elsewhere mate.

Tuchel was an up and coming manager
Pochettino leaving Spurs was an up and coming manager

The likes of Lampard, Rooney and Potterball are not in the same ball park.
It was reported we had contact with Tuchel in the past, we preferred 'proven premier League experience'.

Potter, regardless of what some think of him, could easily do the same job Benitez has done here and would not want to mould a team that is is functional and uninspiring.

We are far too narrow in our focus for managers because we are limited by wanting 'winners with PL experience'. The problem with that is that we can't attract current winners so we are left scratching around for the likes of Benitez.

Which is probably why he's signing more younger players who are naturally more inclined to listen to him.

Its why if Benitez is booted we need Jose Mourinho if we go down the road of another disciplinarian - he's still regarded as a good level manager even if he's past his best days.
This is why we love you, Jimmy, you never, ever learn any lessons. You are the Jerry Seinfeld of GoT (without his millions and crazy mullet, obvs).
