It must have been as Carlo still had a job last season and would have still had one this season after finishing 10th.

People can talk about agendas but we all know any manager other than Benitez and Alladyce would be given much more support by the fanbase after spending just £1.5m in the summer window.

If people dont like the manager thats fair enough but lets not pretend that the anti Benitez crowd dont have an axe to grind. Its up to the more rational supporters to ensure the manager is given support when its warranted.
One of the reasons why neither of them should have been appointed

Benitez has been dealt a pretty poor hand.

You have a bloated first team squad on high wages, with many players underperforming
FFP rules restricting only approx. 2mil spent
James Rodriguez drama (I think his heart sets to leave since Carlo left)
Moise Kean transfer saga. PSG flirted with Moise Kean, and then with Richy
"You-know-who" suspended
DCL started off with injuries
Still no player succession on RB position (after 2-3 seasons??)
I think end of this season, with all high earners "deadwood" gone, hopefully, we can start to a proper recruitment plan and proper finance management.

Its fairly clear that this summers signings were all made by Benitez.

Gray, Lonergan, Begovic, Townsend and Rondon.

Its correct to state the cost was £1.7mil.

However, the wages must be around £300k a week.

Thats over £15mil a year + agent fees and bonuses.

Its not nothing.

Beat Norwich (not guaranteed) and we'll be on 13pts after 6 games -- I expected 14pts.

Then we have:

United
West Ham
Watford
Wolves
Spurs
City
Brentford

That takes us to 13 games and 1/3 of the season.

Id expect us to be sat on 24pts after 13 games.

We then face Liverpool :)

Although it may seem a high figure, we need points on the board as im pretty pessimistic about the final games of the season. We dont have the squad depth.

Looking at other teams in the league and their european adventures, I think we should be competing for 5th position before a drop off.

Not really mate its a multi million pound sports industry not X Factor - the board need to hire the best man for the job not bring in someone who is more likely to fail but the fans love and tops the popularity charts.

I honestly think someone would rather Dunc as manager and finishing 13th instead of Benitez as manager and finishing 7th.

It would have to be a tooth and nail relegation fight to get to a point where Benitez is sacked.

They (the board) know they owe him.
Exactly, both Benitez and the board have gone into this with their eyes open. Benitez knows he has to sell to buy and even then he won’t be given all of the money generated by sales to spend. He has accepted that and believes he can work with it. The club, for their part will tolerate anything better than a relegation battle before they consider sacking Benitez.

As far as the club are concerned, anything better than 12th is a bonus. The times they are a changing around Goodison. It’s all about Bramley-Moore now and balancing the books.

I'd rather we finished 7th under Dunc than finish 13th under Bulbous Benny.
See... I can make up utterly random scenarios as well.

We aren't finishing 7th under Rafalafel so there is little point in answering.
I've only been on his forum for a few weeks but of all the posts I have read yours are the most ridiculous. your pseudonym suggests quite clearly that you indeed have a bucket and an empty one at that for the your head. rather like another Lord who has allegedly been missing for decades, consequently unable to offer reasoned thought, your contribution is of a similar standard

Given the lack of spending, the loss of Sigurdsson and the injury crisis we can expect intermittently this season - I'll be glad to get to 40 points ASAP.

This board have handed a poison challice to Benitez. If he can get us top half it'll be way beyond my expectations.
