Given the lack of spending, the loss of Sigurdsson and the injury crisis we can expect intermittently this season - I'll be glad to get to 40 points ASAP.

This board have handed a poison challice to Benitez. If he can get us top half it'll be way beyond my expectations.

Agree with all apart from the Iceland comment. I think we are actually playing better without him. I much prefer someone who presses and runs that a guy who scores the odd worldy.

I think with a player who is capable of scoring 20+ goals a season, the desire to win a trophy may come quicker than balancing the books.

Richarlison has been rumoured to want out for a while so I don't think anybody would be surprised if he was next. It just depends on the right bid coming in.

It is what it is Dave, Benitez will do well to get us top half. I don't have too.muxh sympathy for him though, he knew what he was getting into and he wouldn't have got the job if things had been different.

I still think he is a bad fit for Everton, he is too divisive and will always split the fan base. I do though think he is on a hiding to nothing. Mind you he is being well paid for it.

The bottom line is that we are still a PL club when/if the stadium opens.

He's savvy enough and thick skinned enough to get us through if there's not a lot of cash to spend. His time at Newcastle rather his time at Liverpool or Chelsea or Madrid would have attracted Moshiri / Uzmanov.

Top half finishes are going to be like the new top 6 finishes for Everton: something we aspire to.

This is what I don't get. You hate Ancelotti, rightly identified that he underperformed at the club, then state that Benitez matching his performance with the same squad of players minus Sigurdsson (not Benitez's fault he's not in the squad) and James (Benitez's fault he's not in the squad) but with Gray and Townsend (who Benitez wanted and who you have said improves the squad) would be "way beyond [your] expectations". How can it be underperformance for Ancelotti but an achievement for Benitez?

We had injuries last season too and Benitez wanted James out, it was his choice. Looking at the clubs that finished around us last season only Villa have materially improved their squad, 10th isn't an achievement, it's par.
